UPDATE: We've changed some of the rewards, so take a look and see if there's anything new you would like to try! With 11 days to go we're doing really well - THANK YOU to everybody who has already pledged - but we can always do better. We've got armwarmers, jewellery, art and felting workshops and all sorts of new things to look at!
We can let you know that we're temporarily moving to the St John's Centre on the ground floor for a few months, so there won't be a huge break in between us closing and opening up again.
We are Fabrication, the craftiest place in Leeds!
Fab is a social enterprise with around 70 different sellers and we're not just somewhere to sell for our members; we provide much more such as sense of purpose, employment, a focus, and mentoring. Over the years we've seen many of our sellers move out into their own retail businesses, and we provide a space for people to try out ideas for their own place and we're very proud to see shops that started in Fabrication go from strength to strength.
As a business we've been growing steadily for many years, and we've had a great home in the Light for the last five. Unfortunately we need to move from the Light (which has been lovely and we're grateful for their support) as the lease has run out. In order to grow as a business we need bigger & better premises and this seems like an ideal time to do this.
There are a few spaces in Leeds City Centre that we're looking at but of course there needs to be a lot of work done in order to make wherever we move suitable for our use - these buildings have often been empty for a long time and are empty shells with no light, power, or water, let alone plastered walls or units we can use!
We can't tell you where the shop will be just yet - we're still working on the details - but we do have a couple of phases that we're aiming at. Phase One is to get the shop ready for opening on October 1st, a huge amount of work in its own right; not only will we need light and power, we'll need to make necessary adjustments for accessibility. Phase Two involves a community cafe, rehearsal and popup space in the heart of Leeds city centre. If we beat our initial target we have stretch goals that will help shape Phase Two.
Because Fabrication puts any spare cash back into the business we don't have any cash reserves to draw on when unexpected costs like this arise; we want to provide the best experience for our members and our shoppers and so we really need a cash boost to pay for moving to a new location. We're not asking for people to donate and get nothing in return, though; our sellers have been donating rewards so you get something tangible for your money. And we're not talking about a bookmark - all of these rewards are worth every single penny and then some. You could get a significant bargain, too. There are so many rewards that we're constantly adding to the list on the side, so check back often to see if something new has shown up!
Thanks for reading and watching; we hope you like the sound of the rewards and can donate to keep what is an amazing social and community enterprise going. If you have any questions please do get in touch.
