Awestruck Academy is a creative community centre with a host of creative industry services as well as a coffee bar. There is an art gallery for amateur artists and professionals to showcase their work, photography and videography training. Awestruck Academy is the place where artists can show off their work to the public within the gallery area, Awestruck provides a pleasant facility that inspires and supports amateur as well as professional artists and craft makers within the West Dunbartonshire community.
ART GALLERY FOR AMATEUR AND PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS
Awestruck Academy hosts art shows for amateur artists who either sit in their house or in a small art club. The work they produce is amazing and we love to showcase their talent, some artists who have shown their work here, have went on to show their work in other bigger galleries and also appeared at big art events. Something they would have never have dreamed of doing, we give them the self confidence and belief by showing their work in the gallery. We will also host art and craft fairs and tabletop sales.
Awestruck Academy facilitates, organizes and offers affordable creative workshops and classes within the centre offering a variety of techniques and media from only £2 a class.
We have an affordable music school at only £5 a lesson, teaching adults and children the guitar, drums and keyboard. We know that with cuts to the education budget children are now being asked to pay for lessons in schools. Music and art is now being seen as a luxury and we are here to give access to everyone no matter what their budget. Carers and their users come into the academy and use the cafe area and borrow a guitar while they have a coffee.
PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY
We also host Boy in the Corner Photography where photography services and training are offered by the in house photography and videography company.
We have built a team of skilled volunteers as well as providing placements to students and members of the public who wish to gain work experience within the creative industry. When we opened the Academy in May we had 11 youth volunteers between 16yrs and 18yrs over the summer and 3 of them found employment within 2 weeks of working with us. We have a great core of 9 volunteers of all ages from 14yrs to 76yrs who all rely on the academy and give them a sense of purpose to help others.
We have built a stage to attract the performing arts companies, bands, comedy nights and spoken word. We are wanting a venue that is not only cultural but an amazing place for creatives to showcase their field in front of an audience. We have no lighting and a few speakers to try and make a makeshift sound system for the stage until we raise money.
Our venue is available to hire for functions
