We want to expose the dark money bankrolling our politics.

The openDemocracy dark money Crowdfunder has nearly reached its target!

Thanks for your support! With just a few days left to go we’re tantalisingly close to

hitting our target of £100,000… Can you chip in just a little more to get us over

the finish line?

As the Brexit deadline looms closer and Westminster remains in chaos, we're racing to find out the truth about the hidden forces setting the Brexit agenda. Just last week we broke a shocking new story showing how dark money is fuelling the powerful no-deal Brexit lobby in the Conservative Party.

We have fresh leads to chase down, and just days left to hit our target. If we reach £100k, it’ll be a big symbolic victory. It'll show that trustworthy, accountable journalism doesn’t need dark money or dodgy sponsorship deals – it can be people-powered, thanks to thousands of supporters like you.

Our journalism has already sparked law change, criminal investigations and global

media pickup.

With your help we can grow our work to:

  • forensically investigate all the major sources of political funding, and the secretive routes through which that cash is channelled;
  • track how so-called ‘grassroots’ campaign groups are financed and organised, so we can stop abuses like Vote Leave’s law-breaking happening again;
  • closely monitor how voters are targeted on social media, and challenge the spread of misinformation online;
  • expose how secretive, unaccountable lobbying operations are trying to influence public debate.

We’re not doing this because we’re for or against Brexit, but because we all deserve to know who’s bankrolling our politics.

Thank you so much for whatever you can contribute – it really does make a difference.
