1 in 3 event professionals experience mental illness a year, our aim is to change that and the event industry's relationship with wellbeing.

New stretch target

The extra money would enable us to spend more on marketing and communications by way of introducing a specialised PR and media campaign to increase our reach and audience.

EventWell's 2020 Pledge for Change

My name is Helen Moon and I have worked professionally in the event industry for 23 years. I have also over a period of 20 years suffered from periods of severe depression until finally in 2009 I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, which also coincided with me experiencing and suffering a severe career burn-out.

When I experienced my burn-out I was caught up in a work-hard play-hard culture, one that many event professionals find themselves in day after day, a culture that can be catastrophic and, it has been my desire because of my experiences, to change how the event industry embraces mental health, from an industry, organisation and individual level.

I founded the first 'Event Wellbeing Week' campaign in September 2017 and our research that year identified that mental ill health affects one in three event professionals every year, a statistic that is incredibly worrying when compared with the one in six UK statistic for people in work, the general population statistic in the UK is one in four.

In October of that year the idea came to start the event industry's first charitable social enterprise and dedicated resource for mental health and wellbeing advice, knowledge and support.

Three years later 2020 sees EventWell entering it's first financial year as a start up business and social enterprise and the introduction of Event Wellbeing Day as the younger sibling to Event Wellbeing Week. We are in the process of setting up our board of Trustees and have also introduced our Friends of EventWell and membership scheme as a means of giving a voice to professionals and individuals in the industry.

Our Mission, Vision and Values

Our mission is to be 'the Mental Health and Wellbeing Voice of the Event Industry'.

Our vision is 'to make tangible change to the Event Industry's relationship with Wellbeing'.

Our core values centre on empathy, culture and self-care.

We will work in partnership with event industry associations, national and international events and exhibitions, universities and colleges, to deliver free education that creates better understanding, challenges discrimination and encourages open conversations on wellbeing and mental health in the event industry.

We will work with event industry businesses and creative organisations to support and develop workplace wellbeing best practice, proactive leadership, positive culture and in-house team forums that encourage open conversations on wellbeing and mental health and the support available.

We will work with and support individuals with education and training in self-care, healthy lifestyle, essential life skills and mental health first aid, in addition to providing confidential support and a ‘go to’ wellbeing and mental health resource.

The #EventWell20 Campaign

This 2020 EventWell Campaign #EventWell20, which kicked off on Event Wellbeing Day held on the 26th February, aims to encourage ‘positive action’ to tackle the ‘real issue’ of one in three event professionals suffering from mental ill health each year. This year's campaign will encourage event businesses and employers, to commit to providing better support for their employees and talent, and to making a positive change to workplace culture and mental health.

We have teamed up with the Mind and Rethink Mental Health ‘Time to Change‘ campaign team to encourage event businesses and employers to sign the ‘EventWell Manifesto‘.

After signing the EventWell Manifesto. Time to Change have committed to providing free support to help event businesses work towards an employer action plan, and get ready to sign their 'Employer Pledge' during Event Wellbeing Week taking place in September, from Monday 21st through to Sunday 27th.

Our overall aim is to help businesses within the event industry achieve and set in place the 'Thriving at Work' six core standards, as set out in the Government’s 2017 Stevenson/Farmer report.

The event industry currently sits 2nd to last and is hugely underrepresented in terms of other UK Industries and the near 1,400 companies that have signed up to the Employer Pledge. This is something that urgently needs review and change, and the #EventWell20 campaign will address this.

By signing the EventWell Manifesto, businesses and employers within the event industry will be making a real commitment to positive change, for the benefit of all – as we all have mental health!

How will EventWell use your money?

Your money will go towards the overall campaign management and contract services, travel and expenses, marketing and communications, social media advertising, and the design of print materials that will enable us to reach as many professionals and businesses within the event industry as we can.

It will also enable us to kick start the #EventWell20 legacy project 'EventWell Illuminate #EWIlluminate' - providing free education and lectures to event management students, apprentices and undergraduates on the importance of self-care and building resilience in events, as the new and emerging talent entering the industry.

You will support us in reaching new audiences across the UK, to ensure that our messaging is impactful and helps us to achieve our campaign aims and objectives of improving the mental health and wellbeing of all professionals working in the event industry.
