Etherow Centre Window Repair

by ecct in Broadbottom

We did it
On 4th November 2013 we successfully raised £1,500 with 36 supporters in 35 days

A large window in our activity centre has rotted and needs replacement. At the moment it has no glass in it and is covered in plastic sheeting, which is not very effective, flaps in the wind, disturbs the horses and looks unsightly. We need £1,500 for half the cost of the replacement window.

The Etherow Centre Charitable Trust owns a large railway warehouse in Broadbottom, Greater Manchester.  This building was saved from dereliction in the 1970s and opened as a venue for sporting and leisure opportunities for people with disabilties and others in 1982.  It's extensive size has facilitated the provision of riding for disabled people in the lower part of the building.  This operation also has an outside arena and a separate stable block.  The upper floor offers Crown Green Bowls in a beautiful conversion for this purpose, and houses the Tameside Bowling League, which means that the facility is used every day during the season - until 10.30pm at night on Thursdays.

The regular finances of the Trust provide for all running expenses and minor repairs, but specific fundraising is neceesary for larger items, such as the enormous window in the south face of the building.  The woodwork in this window has rotted to such an extent that the glazing cannot be supported, and the window is currently covered with plastic as a temporary solution.  We urgently need to make the window weatherproof for the winter, and your donations will enable this to happen.  If you pledge more money than we need for the window itself, the residue will be used for other repairs to the building.
