*latest news – thank you video added

In the first week in January 2021, as part of project (1), the school team distributed 57 of the 60 *kit_A within 48 hours of receiving the equipment. The project is being monitored and the school is capturing all the steps that they took to get the kits delivered and working so that the children can be educated remotely.

After the February 2021 need’s assessment of Dubmire Primary Academy, and Newbottle Primary Academy, we are seeking an additional 150 *kit_A. Our benefactors can only donate 100 *kit_B (without monitors).

Therefore, for our next project (2) we are now seeking donations of either money (circa £25k) or equipment to address the need.  That is 50 *kit_B and 150 HDMI monitors 150 cables.

*kit_A = Raspberry Pi 400, Mouse, Camera, Headset and Monitor.

*kit_B = Raspberry Pi 400, Mouse, Camera, Headset.

We are in urgent need to raise £25,000. No matter how small, every pound (or tenner) helps!

MAKE A DONATION!

If you believe in a world where all young people should have access to education which fuels future success.

If you want to help sponsor a more equal playing field

Please support our efforts, to equip disadvantaged children, with the technology they need for a 21st Century education.

We begin by providing technology to 160 children in primary school education in the North East who currently have no connectivity or shared facilities, and therefore insufficient equipment to learn on equal terms.

You can help change that.

The impact of the pandemic will be lifelong according to a UN report and will exacerbate the learning crisis.

Help Us make a difference in these children's lives. Help us raise the funds by donating to this campaign.

No matter how small, every pound (or tenner) helps!

OUR VISION

Our Vision is an equal opportunity for all. A level playing field where there is access to education, opportunity and essential support to make ideas into reality.

We are the equalisers; we may not be able to change it all, but where we focus we narrow the gap between those who have and those who don’t.

Who are We?!

We are the Society for Entrepreneurial Education and Development (S.E.E.D), a charity that is passionate about reducing tech poverty within the UK by providing Computers 4 Children.

We were founded in 2018 to counter the continued disadvantage and discrimination faced by young people who are socially excluded. We wish to address this exclusion, through development and support activities from school age right up to adulthood by providing access to digital and mentoring resources.

As you may know, for many families, life without any digital connection – no phones, no apps, no social media, no internet is the day-to-day reality.

Many of you will remember how unbearable lockdown was, we all became so reliant on our tech as a means of communication whether it was for work, family, health, education or just leisure purposes. Now place yourself in the life of an individual or family, who had no access to the internet or computer. How extremely difficult it must have been due to the isolation, the loneliness felt and increased knowledge poverty/education gap, because children were missing out on their educational needs.

As a nation, we have seen how large groups of children have effectively been left behind, due to their lack of access to appropriate Computer Equipment (a computer, peripherals, and internet connection) or even access to a smartphone. Although the government has rolled out initiatives to assist vulnerable pupils, these have a very narrow reach, and many have missed out entirely.

Help Us! Let's close a gap further widened by the Covid-19 crisis.

What we Want to do?!

We are determined to ensure the children have access to Computer Equipment and peripherals. This includes the installation of the equipment along with the provision of internet access. We aim to raise £75,000 as our initial goal of 60 laptops, internet connectivity and peripherals. Our stretch goal is to raise £150,000 to reach a total of 160 children by December 2020.

To do this we are working with Aim High Academy Trust (AHAT), to support the education needs of children at home, who have not had any formal education from the beginning of the pandemic. AHAT is based in Houghton Le Spring in the borough of Sunderland, together we have identified a group of children with more barriers to learning than most. The children from Gillas Lane Primary school are severely disadvantaged with significantly below national starting points. Also, there is involvement from outside agencies due to chaotic households and family life, lack of life experiences which has impacted speech and language, along with third-generation unemployment.

We believe that these barriers must be acknowledged, and as such we are driven to support this group of children burdened with these detrimental circumstances, with our Computers for Children programme.

You want to know Why?

Before we tell you our reasons, tell us this. Are you aware that the pandemic has brought a significant negative effect on all children right across our society?

Did you know that children who live in socially disadvantaged households - such as those living in challenging home environments,  children who are lacking social support or whose families are already facing poverty - especially the vulnerable?

We do this because every child deserves an equal opportunity through education.

Children would benefit in the following ways:

  • Having access to a laptop at home.
  • Having appropriate communication through good online connectivity.
  • Safely accessing online learning.
  • Having online learning resources that deliver effectively through a variety of different ways.
  • Improved education and engagement, richer vocabulary, raising aspirations and improving mental health and well-being.
  • Improved lifetime career prospects.

Morally, Ethically and Economically the correct thing to do. It should however be a government initiative.
