To encourage natural sustainability and pollination of wildlife and vegetables through a local community resource.

by Nigel Holt in Heath Charnock, England, United Kingdom

The Bay Horse Community Growing Project, requested we improve and maintain a small, abandoned parcel of land next to the Bay Horse Pub. There have been many members through the years. Young children through to retired people wanting to contribute toward sustainability with a view to improving the local environment.

Phase two of this project is to develop and encourage the local honeybee population which is in significant decline. Some members have undertaken beekeeping courses but lack the funds to develop this project. It is hoped that through this means of community fundraising, we can afford to purchase a colony of local indigenous black honeybees and have the materials to make some hives (built from recycled pallets and tyres). We anticipate the sum needed will be around £500. Your donations will improve the local wildlife and the honeybee population. We are a not for profit group and reinvest money back into the plot and environment.
