English United is a new social enterprise project. I am looking for funding to buy equipment and books for a new language school in Plymouth
About the project
After working in further education for many years, I recognised the need for a specialised service for disadvantaged learners.
There is a strong presence of second language learners in the city with more arriving who are unable to gain access to FE provision primarily due to continued cuts in adult funding. They may be refugees, asylum seekers or EU nationals seeking safety or a better life for themselves and their family. Many of these people may not qualify for any benefits so they are unable to enrol onto an English course to help them to integrate into their local communities. There is not much more they can do or anywhere they can go to receive the training they desperately need.
Our native speakers
There are many in the city who lack confidence with their reading or writing skills. They feel embarrassed because they can't help their children with homework or complete a simple form. This is what I want to tackle.
It is my belief that EVERYONE, no matter the language, the culture, the disability should go without the opportunity to improve their employability prospects.
My mission is to "Reach all Teach all" and to help me do this I need to equip my business with the tools to help me to do my job. I managed to purchase an interactive board with my redundancy pay along with an old computer (as shown in the picture).
