We're a team of committed and passionate young men travelling to Australia to represent England at the 2017 New South Wales State Cup!
Every sportsman or woman dreams about representing their country at the highest level, experiencing the passion and sheer excitement of competing alongside their team mates on the world stage. We need your help to make this dream come true for the England Touch Rugby team to compete at the 2017 New South Wales State Cup in Port Macquarie, Australia, November 30th to December 4th. http://www.nswtouch.com.au/representative/state-cup/
We have our sights set on a thrilling State Cup campaign, off the back of being crowned the 2014 and 2016 European Champions and the 2013 Home Nations Champions.
In total we need £40,000 to make this dream come true, every little bit helps!
But what is Touch Rugby?
Touch is a sport also known in some countries as Touch Rugby, or Touch Football. Touch originated in Australia and New Zealand but has rapidly expanded internationally with more than 60 different countries currently playing the game.
A fast, thrilling, minimal contact game, the Federation of International Touch are working towards the sport being recognised in the Commonwealth and Olympic Games in years to come. If you haven’t seen it before, have a look at some great game footage on the Touch Australia YouTube Channel http://www.youtube.com/touchfootballaus.
Who are we?
A 20 member team (16 players, 2 coaches and 2 support staff) we are the reigning European and Home Nations Champions and have trained and played together for more than three years. Our team consists of young men from across England who come together to train twice monthly, on top of 5-7 individual sessions per week to ensure we are prepared and ready for the three day NSW State Cup competition, and the pre-tournament tour matches we will play in Brisbane, Australia. We have one clear objective for our Australian tour and that is to prove ourselves against the best in the world in preparation for the 2019 Touch Rugby World Cup!
Unfortunately, Touch Rugby in England is a totally self-funded sport. As players, we get zero funding or monetary support from the government, and zero financial support from all other sporting/non-sporting bodies.
All of us either work or study full-time (we’ve got a lot of young guns this year!). The free time we do have after work/school and on weekends is spent travelling the country for training, and every expense incurred is funded out of our own pockets.
We individually pay for everything from travel expenses, accommodation, food and tournament fees, down to our playing kit – even our socks are paid for out of our own pocket!
In the past, this has led to some of our players missing out on tournaments and an opportunity to represent their country, because they simply could not afford to go and we do not want this to happen on this trip!
Your support will get us there
As a team we need to fund £40,000 for travel, accommodation, training facilities, kit, and tournament fees and we hope to raise at least £3,000 of that with your help. We’ve got some great thank you rewards to make the donation that little sweeter. Please note that you can donate as little – or as much as you like – the amounts on our rewards are merely suggestions. You can also donate anonymously, though we would dearly love to know who you are so we can thank you for helping us achieve our goal of competing at the NSW State Cup!
If you are a business and would be interested in larger donations than our rewards cater for please get in touch… we have a rapidly growing social media network that can reach more than 1000 people; there are more than 30,000 participants and even more spectators involved in the 2017 NSW State Cup, games will be broadcast on YouTube making a larger sponsorship well worthwhile.
The team welcomes your messages of support and encouragement, please do leave a message or comment alongside any pledge.
