The opportunity to design and build a show garden at a prestigious event like RHS Chatsworth is a dream, and it's one that came true for me! I am following my passion for design and gardening, training to become a garden designer at University. At 28, I am studying as a mature student, after having my children aged 4 and 7. I recently won a competition hosted by BBC Radio Sheffield which was to design a garden celebrating and reflecting the heritage of my local area which is Sheffield and The Peak District. My garden design exlores the enduring relationship between the surrounding Peak District and Sheffields famous steel industry using materials such as stone boulders and corten steel. I have a small budget to help with the build but it does not cover the project as a whole. I have kindly had materials or products loaned to use in the garden and now need to raise the extra funds to buy the plants. Designing and building the garden has to be one of my biggest achievements in life so far. I'm pinching myself as it is such a brilliant platform to start a career and gain valuable experience. After the show, the gardens are broken down and elements are donated to local gardening charities so the money will not be wasted. Please support me on my way to becoming a garden designer and building an amazing show garden that will hopefully inspire others to get into gardening too.
