Egni (Energy in Welsh) is a co-operative which is seeking to develop 105 kw of solar PV panels on seven community buildings in South Wales.
We are looking for your support via Crowdfunder to donate to enable each community building to buy a share (worth £250) in the co-operative. We are doing this as a number of people have said they would like to support the project, but cannot afford to buy a share themselves. However, if they can donate a smaller amount via Crowdfunder, it will help the project go ahead and provide additional benefit to the community buildings. You also get some fabulous rewards.....
These are the biggest roofs in the village! We’ve surveyed about 35 buildings in total and chosen the best ones.
It’s the sort of project we all want to see – solar panels on key local community buildings. Some of these buildings are well known charities in Wales: Dove Workshop in Banwen and Glynneath Training Centre – both offer training, community cafes, a crèche and a local hub.
Perhaps less well known is Brynaman Public Hall and Institute – funded by the miners in the 1920s, run by volunteers, and now housing the largest cinema screen in Wales. It also has the most fantastic Art Deco interior. All the buildings will benefit from free electricity from the panels and it’ll save more than 1,000 tonnes of CO2 over the project lifetime.
If we raise more than our Crowdfunder target, it'll be used to buy additional shares for the community groups.
Egni is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority as a bone fide co-op, registration number 32008R. If you would like to invest as an individual in addition to donating on Crowdfunder, more information and the Share Offer Document can be downloaded from www.egni.coop.
