Edward Bond is one of the most ambitious and creative dramatists working in the the world of theatre today. His work, though widely performed throughout Europe, can very rarely be seen on stages in the UK. This is because of Bond's opposition to the majority of commercial theatres in the country and their emphasis on profit. He only allows particular theatre companies to perform his work and so it is a great privilege of mine to have been given this rare opportunity.
My name is George McClure, the director, and with producer Claudia McGettigan, we form the creative team for the Undersense Theatre Company. We are a small company, consisting of students with a range of interests across different fields, but each with an individual passion for theatre.
We aim to revitalise Bond's masterpiece within today's climate of uncertainty, hoping to attract interest among lovers of theatre and, perhaps, among both new and long-standing admirers of the writer's work. The extent to which the scale of production can be taken, solely depends on the level of interest and support it receives, so any donation - substantial or small - would be highly appreciated. With any additional funds, we would be able to cover the costs of the production, and potentially take the project further and secure a spot in the Edinburgh Fringe.
The project would love to have your support. Any help could make all the difference in allowing the production to reach its full potential, as well as to spread Bond's work to as many new audiences as possible.
