Earth Ale Bus Renovation

We are seeking to raise £15,750 to renovate an old double-decker bus into a bar to sell Earth Ale beer and be a community space in Haringey.

We did it!

On 3rd May 2018 we successfully raised £6,206 with 53 supporters in 56 days

Bus Renovation

Earth Ale will create an exciting new taproom. A flexible space for events and activities for the residents of Haringey.

There is a fantastic opportunity to renovate this static double-decker bus, in Blue House Yard, Woodgreen.

We want to offer 11 hyper-local, tasty craft brews on tap to showcase the great beer brewed in North London.

On the upper deck, we can envision summer screenings of cult classics and hold intimate gigs to support local bands. It would also be a terrific space for learning  with the ability to hold language lessons or small lectures from subject experts.

Our organisation has strong environmental beliefs.  We are going to try to minimise our impact by recycling more than you thought possible, using bio-degradable cups made from plant starch for our events and glassware for our trading hours inside. 

We plan to install solar panels on the roof of the bus to generate our own electricity.

With the launch of the double-decker bus, we plan to have food truck residencies evolving through the spring and summer months serving delicious food to compliment the great beers we will serve. 

Earth Ale will also be organising some pop-up dinners in the courtyard during the summer involving some guest chef residencies.


We are located in Blue House Yard (shown below). A group of businesses that want to have a positive social impact in our community.

We'd like to offer opportunities for underprivileged local people who have the odds stacked against them and give them a way to build up knowledge and skills. They would start out serving on the Bus with opportunities to learn every aspect of the business such as how to brew and make beer, learn how to sell the products and manage a company. 

Our ethos is heavily focused on fostering entrepreneurship. Our aim is to give someone the confidence and knowledge to start their own business in the future.

Foraging is a big aspect of Earth Ale. We gather wild ingredients from Canterbury, Oxfordshire, Surrey and the South East of England's coastline.

We want to share our knowledge with the community by hosting foraging workshops and summer dinners in the yard that will solely focus on sustainable produce. This is a great opportunity for the community to be involved in what we are doing as a social enterprise.

With your generous help and contribution to the pledges, we aim to raise £15,750. 

Here is what we plan to do with those funds:

  • Bar installation, glassware, storage shed, connect and assemble the beer lines, fund the setup of the cold room and insulation for the kegs and coolers, carpenter work on bar build.
  • Installing solar power for electricity
  • Connect up drainage and electricity to the bus to a professional, clean standard
  • Set up payment services for Izettle, till, and interface.
  • Start the budget for community development projects. For example cost of ingredients for cooking courses, language courses and foraging.

In order to maintain our green approach, we would like to install solar panels on the bus roof to help cover some of the electricity and hot water. We will not use any plastic on the bus and maintain minimum wastage from the space where we will make sure everything will be recycled i.e keykegs, cups and food waste.

Blue House Yard


Alex's journey began here in the UK, progressing through Denmark where foraging for natural flavours sparked his interest in brewing, and more recently onto South Africa, where he learned to create fresh flavoursome beers from natural, often foraged ingredients.

Earth Ale was born as a result of Alex's passion for food, travel and beer.
