Our small, independent music venue faces a very dire winter. It is the time of year when Babars should be buzzing with students and parties for Halloween and Christmas. Instead we are gradually slowing to a stop.
We understand of course why people are not going out: there's a pandemic and we want you all to stay safe.
We also want, and need, Babar's to survive and hope that you feel the same.
Post-lockdown, we did everything we could to mitigate our losses: we reintroduced amazing food, put on stylish table service, staged magical live music events, we built, redecorated, printed t-shirts & mugs and generally worked our asses off.
Things were going good. We felt we had really brought things back in a wonderful way (albeit with a much reduced turnover) but unfortunately the world around us wasn't ready and now it seems an impossible place to promote in.
We are lucky at Babars, we have an understanding landlord and our bills aren't massive. We do however still have bills and staff to support plus our two selves (and our son), who rely on the business to survive.
Your donations will be used to help us get through until next year, or however long it takes until people can mingle again and come and enjoy the full Babar experience. We look forward to that day very much when we can come back with sparkles and va va voom.
If we hit our target, and we can prevent the closure of our venue, everything above the amount we need will be donated to the Music Venue Trust GMV Crisis Fund to protect other venues just like ours, right across the country.
