DYT is a dance and performing arts school in South Wales. DYT is currently run by volunteers and young leaders who's aim is to get kids in off the streets, into a hobby that they love and give them the confidence and self esteem that every child deserves. We currently run 15 sessions across the week including street dance, a junior choir, arts and crafts classes, breakdance, a drama club and SEN and disability sessions.
DYT (Formally Do Your Thing) has been running for 15 years in the local community and we have a brilliant reputatuion in the local area for providing affordable, fun and friendly sessions for children and young people. We have recently settled in our new home at the Stute in Fleur de Lys, Blackwood and since moving venues, DYT has grown massively which is an amazing achievement for us.
Our big dream is to own our own space within the premises we currently run out of to expand and give further opportunities to the community and wider area. We want to expand and establish drama clubs, street dance, musical theatre and youth clubs for children and young people with SEN and Disabilities along with free workshops, beatboxing, dance leader training for our young dancers and graffiti skills. We want to open our doors 7 days a week to children, young people and teens in the area to feel safe, have fun and do something that they love. We also want to give our competitive teams a space to develop and grow as dancers and give our open classes somewhere to gain skills and confidence to do the hobby that they love.
Who will benefit from this?
1.The current members of DYT
2.Children from the ages of 1-17
4.Kids and young people with SEN and Disabilities
5. Adults with LD and Disabilities
6. Young people looking to gain volunteer hours, new skills and gain qualifications
What are the plans?
1. Renovate the middle floor in the Stute with new flooring, disabled access and toilets, new mirrors, a tuck shop for refreshments, parents waiting area/chill out room
2. Launch a drama and performance club for young people with SEN and Disabilities
3. Launch day time classes for tots
4. Bring weekly / monthly workshops in for things like circus skills, graffiti art, beatboxing, dance, performance and singing.
5. Provide free opportunities for the young people in the community
6. Provide training for junior dance leaders within DYT
