We did it
On 25th August 2020 we successfully raised £10,336 with 78 supporters in 52 days

To make up the shortfall on cashflow due to Covid-19 restrictions, by asking members of the club and wider community to invest in the club.

New stretch target

This will be used to pay essential bills that still need paying during the period of lockdown, and to allow us to kickstart our season once we are allowed to welcome the members and community back to theclub.

Dymock Cricket Club

Dymock Cricket Club is one of the oldest clubs in Gloucestershire. It was formed in 1865 and was a founder member of the Gloucestershire leagues. We are an inclusive club run entirely by volunteers and are open to all.

Community Links

The club is an important social hub for the local community. The junior section has been very successful and this has resulted in families attending matches and training nights. The pavilion is available to hire at low rates and is used by the Church Committee, a Shooting Club, a Crib Club and private parties. In 2020 we were due to hold our first wedding on our ground. We also hold the biggest event in the village calendar, The Dymock Festival, as well as several running events including the Dymock Half Marathon and the Poet Potter Weekend. We hold a bonfire night for the village in November with fireworks, food and an open bar. We also link with the Church to run the Christmas Disco with proceeds going to the Church Roof fund.

Friday night is junior training night and we open our bar and run a BBQ which is well attended by many of the local community.

We are supported by several local businesses who sponsor us by purchasing advertising boards around the ground. We currently have 6 boards in position and are hoping to double this number by the end of 2020.

We are hoping to run a “virtual 10k run” in September and details of this will appear on our website and on this site in the near future. Entry will become one of the rewards in the near future.

The club stands to lose up to £10,000 due to Covid.

We need to pay the bills, and without the usual income from cricketing activity through the summer we are eating into our reserves.

The club prides itself on being financially self-sufficient, but the ongoing Covid situation is having a big impact on our income. We generate almost all our revenue through matches, the bar and social/fundraising events during the summer months. We have had to cancel the Festival (£7k), Half Marathon (£2k) Wedding (£2k) and our usual quiz nights held twice a year (£1k). This income enables us to cover our costs for the whole year, but with none of these activities happening, our income levels are negligible. In fact, we're forecasting that the club could lose up to £10k this year without some significant fundraising - and that's despite a big effort by our volunteer committee to reduce costs and apply for grants.

Any money raised through this crowdfunding page will therefore help us cover our annual ‘fixed’ running costs which include insurances (£2.5k), utilities (£2.5k), ground work (£2k), finance costs (£1.8k) and pavilion maintenance (£1.2k)   throughout the year.

We were also planning on re-treating the wooden cladding on the new pavilion this year, as well as progressing our project to install nets on our ground to aid our growing coaching and training needs.

A CHANCE TO SHINE

We participate in the ECB's Chance to Shine project. One of the club’s ECB Level 2 Coaches provides the school with sessions that introduce the young audience to the sport of cricket. This has helped to forge strong links with the community and to also encourage new players to join the club and develop their cricketing skills. Providing opportunity to these young cricketers is key to the long-term viability of the club and the sport in general.

In 2016 we gained Club Mark accreditation which has given the local community the confidence in the way that the club is run.   Through the hard work and dedication of our volunteer coaches and back room staff, we have increased our junior membership to 75, including 15 girls, mostly from the village and surrounding area. We are proud of the on and off field development that all of these children show during their time at the club. Junior night on a Friday has become a weekly summer focal point for the village. A chance for parents to watch and socialise during the training sessions.

We attract players and supporters from a wide area and field 8 teams - including 3 junior teams and a girl’s teams. We also run an ECB All Stars programme for 5 to 9 year olds and were due to start delivering the new Dynamos programme for 9 to 11 year olds this summer.

Our Facilities

The club invested heavily in a new pavilion 3 years ago. We are the envy of most other cricket clubs in the area. This was made possible by generous donations from members of the club and community, an ambitious fundraising programme from the club committee, and grants and loans from the ECB and other organisations.

New Pavilion Build 2016/17

The new pavilion is a facility that benefits the whole community. We encourage other groups and organisations to use it and offer the pitch for friendly cricket matches and social events.

How can you help us?

As a volunteer-run club, we need to generate donations from members, friends and the wider community to help us cover the £10,000 shortfall.

You can obviously donate whatever you choose and we would welcome support from any families or businesses in the community who value what we do. But we would also like to encourage people to consider donating in one of the following ways.

  • 100 Club Entries – we are resurrecting this popular club where monthly draws  give the chance to win. 15 months  for a cost of £15.00
  • Tickets for the Dymock Festival. Adult £10, Junior £5 or Family £25
  • Business Advertising – A way for local businesses to be seen to support the local community by having a board placed around the ground. A 1, 2 or 4 year option is available, £350 for 1 year, £500 for 2 years or £1000 for three years, including the cost of the board.  An annual extension of the sponsorship is also available at £150

Membership Donation – we would ask people to consider donating a proportion of the cost of their membership. We have not asked for membership fees to be paid so far this year because there has been no cricket, but with cricket starting in the second half of the season, we are asking for a reduced voluntary membership to be paid, with a suggested amounti temised below:

  •  Senior Men Players - £20
  • Junior/Student/Women Players - £10
  • Social members - £5
  • ‘Family’ option for Senior Men/Women players, including partner and all children under 16 - £30
  • ‘Family’ option for Social Members plus partner and all children under 16 - £10

Bar token donations - with the club now able to open and the start of cricket from now until the end of September we intend to open the bar regularly in order to provide a safe environment for villagers to socialise.  Social distancing won't be a problem as we have a large garden!

Straight donations - you can just use the box on the top right of the donation page to give whatever you choose.

Watch this space! Tickets for entry into the 10k Virtual Run will appear here soon.

We have been very fortunate to have such a good level of community support.  So we thank you for your support - it will really help us to put some stability back into the club finances enabling us to  continue the great work our volunteers have been doing.

When making your donation it would help our treasurer enormously if you could put a note in the comments box to clarify what/who your donation covers.

Thank you for reading this and if you contribute, another big thank you!
