DYING BREED is an 85 minute documentary chronicling a year in the lives of 3 west Cornwall cattle farms. Completed early in 2017, it touches a chord with audiences near and far, capturing as it does a rapidly disappearing way of life.
For one year from April 2017 to March 2018 the film toured cinemas and community venues in Cornwall and beyond to great acclaim: A masterpiece depicting the real Cornwall / A superb, deeply humane documentary / Uniquely enchanting, educational, tough and moving / A wonderful time capsule / Every city dweller should see this film..
Sadly, DYING BREED is now in hibernation.
Because of their expense, the commercial recordings used on the film's soundtrack were licensed for use in cinemas (and community venues) for one year only. But the demand for the film shows no sign of diminishing and we would like to make it available for all time, across all media (to include DVDs and online downloads) and to archives and libraries.
The cost of re-licencing the commercial recordings makes this practically impossible. (One track alone would cost £7,000..!) So we have come up with an alternative solution.
To bring the film back to life the commercial recordings on the soundtrack will be replaced by original music written by South West composer Neil Reid, at a fraction of the cost.
The funds sought by this crowdfunding initiative will be sufficient to pay Neil and the post-production costs of incorporating his music onto a new soundtrack.
Please help re-launch DYING BREED and guarantee its long term existence, so that audiences can continue to enjoy this important film, anytime, anywhere. Thank you..!
(For those of you who might say, "Wasn't it a bit foolish to use commercial recordings in the first place?", we hold up our hands..)
