New stretch target

Any money raised above £20k will help us repair the back balcony (much needed), pay our loan for the nets and further invest in our coaching and participation programmes.

We're a growing community cricket club in Gloucestershire

Dumbleton Cricket Club is a local sports club based in rural Gloucestershire. The club is open to all and run entirely by volunteers. Our aim is to encourage greater participation in cricket - both physically and socially - across every part of our local community.

In particular, we have invested heavily in recent years in the development of our junior programme and Women and Girls cricket. Through the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, we have succeeded in doubling junior participation to over 230 children and now have over 70 Women and Girls playing.

We have a wide catchment area for a rural village club and now have nearly 500 members in total. We field 19 teams - including 12 junior teams, 2 women’s teams and 3 girl’s teams. We also run an ECB All Stars and Dynamos programmes for 5-11 year olds.

We engage people from all parts of our community

The significant growth in participation has been fuelled by a very positive and inclusive environment which is open to all age groups, playing standards and social groups. As part of that commitment, we actively minimise the financial barriers to participation so that we attract people from a broad spectrum of society, including a significant proportion from socially and economically disadvantaged areas. For example, our membership fees are significantly lower than other clubs in the area and we provide heavily subsidised coaching for our juniors and Women and Girls.

We are also an active social hub for the local community and our facilities are used by a wide range of other voluntary groups including three local schools, churches, WI and toddler groups. Our facilities have also been made available to Gloucestershire Cricket Board to help them establish a hub for disability cricket in the north of the county, and we also host many community social and fundraising events, wedding receptions, funerals and other big family gatherings.

Here are some quotes from a survey we did last season which shows how people in the community feel about the club…

  • "It's a gift to be part of such a committed club striving to achieve great things.”
  • "Lovely club run by great people. As parents we are very lucky to have such a wonderful cricket club to be a part of and the kids are making the best of friends and developing their skill levels in a safe and fun environment.”
  • “Dumbleton is way more than a cricket club – it’s at the heart of our community. It’s become my ‘happy place’ and feels like an extended family.”
  • “Fantastic club. Such a buzz going round and very dedicated coaches and volunteers.”
  • “Our experience at Dumbleton has been superb.”
  • “We think it’s brilliant and we are very grateful for all you do. Thank you!”

The club stands to lose up to £20,000 due to Covid.

The club prides itself on being financially self-sufficient, but the ongoing Covid situation is having a big impact on our income. We generate almost all our revenue through matches, the bar and social/fundraising events during the summer months. This income enables us to cover our costs for the whole year, but with none of these activities happening, our income levels are negligible. In fact, we're forecasting that the club could lose up to £20k this year without some significant fundraising - and that's despite a big effort by our volunteer committee to reduce costs and apply for grants.

Any money raised through this crowdfunding page will therefore help us cover our annual ‘fixed’ running costs which primarily include ground (£12k) and pavilion (£6k) maintenance throughout the year. In addition, the back balcony is in urgent need of repair to make it safe - we were hoping to receive a grant from the Glos Cricket Board to cover this, but it's no longer available due to Covid. Any surplus funds will be re-invested in our cricket participation programme so we can maintain and build on the fantastic work we’ve been doing in recent years.

How can you help us?

As a volunteer-run club, we need to generate donations from members, friends and the wider community to help us cover the £20,000 shortfall.

You can obviously donate whatever you choose and we would welcome support from any families or businesses in the community who value what we do. But we would also like to encourage people to consider donating in one of the following ways.

Membership donations – we would ask people to consider donating the cost of their membership

  •  Senior Men Players - £70
  • Junior/Student/Women Players - £40
  • Social members - £30
  • ‘Family’ option for Senior Men/Women players, including partner and all children under 16 - £120
  • ‘Family’ option for Social Members plus partner and all children under 16 - £90

Bar token donations - for every extra £30 you give above this member donation, we will issue you with a £30 bar token which can be redeemed at the club once we're open again.

Phil Tufnell ticket donations – we're planning to run an evening with Phil Tuffnell which is open to the whole community and will be a big fundraising event for us. If you would like to come, we would be grateful if you would support us by paying for your ticket in advance through this crowdfunder page (£75 including a two-course meal by the Wesley House). If the event gets cancelled this year we will run it next year instead, but paying for your ticket now will really help us cover the shortfall in funds we have in 2020.

Straight donations - you can just use the box on the top right of the donation page to give whatever you choose.

As time goes on, we may introduce more opportunities to get involved and donate too, so watch this space!

IMPORTANT! - Sport England will match whatever you give!

In addition to what you give, we've just been approved for a Sport England fund-match, so they will effectively double whatever we raise up to £10k - which will make a massive difference to club!! However, if we fail to reach our contribution of £10k, they won't give us anything at all, so it's an all or nothing offer!

Fortunately, there's a great community spirit around Dumbleton and I'm sure you'll see this is one of those moments when we really need to pull together.

So we thank you in advance for your support - it will really help us to put some stability back into the club finances so that we can continue the great work we've been doing.

Finally, a practical point ....

If you do donate in one of the above ways, please could you put a note in the comments box to clarify what/who your donation covers.

And if you're paying a membership donation, please pay for each member of your family separately (up to the total value you owe), and use a different email address if you can - thanks.
