Who are Drapers Farm Sports Club?
We are the home of both Maldon Rugby Club and Maldon Cricket Club.
Both clubs have excellent reputations across the county in their respective sports and in the local community for developing young people, providing exciting sport opportunities and offering a warm welcome to all. Our organisation has the long term lease for the playing fields and clubhouse, which has changing rooms, a kitchen and a bar.
Our facility is also used for functions and events, including the annual David Randall Foundation - Rock Up For Randall Festival which raises thousands of pounds for local causes. We have plans beyond COVID-19 to further our reach and offer our facility to other groups and the community.
Why is our club important?
Our facility is a regular venue for over 1000 people, the majority who meet to play rugby, cricket or both which has long term benefits for our local community's mental and physical health.
Maldon Rugby Club runs two senior team the 1st team play in Essex league 1 and the 2nd team play in the Eastern counties division 2.
As for the youth section they average about 325 training at Drapers on a Sunday ranging from under 6 all the way up to under 17.
They also send coaches into 12 local primary school for after school training, for boys and girls alike. Through doing this they also hold a school tournament in October for all primary school in the local area. The day is run at Drapers Farm by coaches and volunteers including pupils from plume school.
The cricket club are similar with their reach. They have four senior teams competing in the Two Counties League (Premier - Div 9), a ladies team, 8 colts teams from u9-u15 and offer All Stars cricket to children as young as 6. The club deliver a number of events over the season at Drapers, such as the ladies 7 a side festival (warm up below!).
Maldon Cricket Club also deliver sessions in a dozen primary schools and deliver annual kwick cricket tournaments which gets 100s of local primary school children playing at Drapers Farm every year.
For twelve months of the year, boys, girls, ladies and men come to Drapers Farm to play, spectate, socialise, volunteer and enjoy their leisure time. Our club has become a focal point for the local community all year round and many have made friends for life at the Farm.
Why are we raising funds?
Due to the unprecedented circumstances faced by Covid-19, Drapers Farm Sports Club is looking to raise funds from our members and local community supporters across Maldon and beyond to help us through this tough period.
Currently, despite the rugby season being cut short and the cricket season not starting, we have had to continue to pay running and maintenance costs including but not limited to utility bills, insurance and grounds upkeep. This is despite our doors being closed and us currently having no sources of income.
In short, we need to fundraise to ensure we still exist after this crisis so both Maldon RFC and Maldon CC have a home and we can continue to work with community groups and charities like DRF to host parties like this:
