We need YOUR support to continue to provide vital mental health support for local people and communities in Dorset for the next 75 years.

by Dorset Mind in Bournemouth, England, United Kingdom

Help us be us so we can help you to keep being you.

The need…

“1 in 4 people experience a diagnosable mental health problem in their lifetime.”

Common mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression and stress can be hugely isolating and debilitating for those that live with them.

People in the UK are experiencing the most difficult challenges to their mental health so far during the Covid-19 pandemic.  We’ve all been challenged mentally, physically and emotionally.

Requests for our support in Dorset have risen yet again during this third lockdown period and people need our help more than ever. Although we’ve seen an increase in mental ill health for those who have pre-existing conditions, we’ve also seen an additional growth in people presenting with mental health symptoms who have never struggled before.

As the disruption to life as we now know it follows a roadmap back to ‘normality,’ it is critical that more support is on hand to help people develop resilience and manage stress as they rebuild their lives.

If we do not act and provide accessible support NOW, Dorset will face an unprecedented mental health crisis.

About Dorset Mind

Dorset Mind is an independent local mental health charity that has supported Dorset people for 75 years. We provide a range of accessible individual and group mental health services to help both adults and young people with their mental health.

Here is what one of our young people has to say after accessing our support

“I was often struggling with my own thoughts and worries. After having talked through everything it has helped me move past things in life and gain more control over my life.”

For people with mental health problems, quick and effective continuity of effective mental health support is essential and can literally be lifesaving.

We have adapted most of our face-to-face services for online digital or telephone delivery, so we can continue supporting those that need it the most throughout these challenging times.

Here is what one of our befriending clients said.

“I always looked forward to my weekly befriending call especially during lockdown while human contact is limited. I find my befriender positive, cheerful and encouraging which helped me to set reachable goals and achieve them.”

We are determined to continue to provide services within our local communities for the next 75 years – and more!

But we need funding to do so. As a result of the lockdown restrictions, local businesses closing, cancellation of fundraising events, coupled with the dramatic rising demand for mental health support, we face our toughest year yet…

WE NEED YOUR HELP

The Campaign

Help us be us so we can help you to keep being you.

How can you get involved?

We are asking the public to make a donation within their affordable means to help us fund essential mental health services. If you are unable to make a donation at this time, you can still help us by sharing our campaign across your social media.

Each donation you make helps provide life changing mental health support. Here’s how your support helps:

  • £3 - Someone in your community could attend an online yoga session for looking after physical and mental wellbeing, while stuck at home
  • £10 - One of our trained volunteers could make a wellbeing check-in call that supports a young person with their anxiety and stress
  • £15 - One of our befrienders could make a vital call to help support people who are shielding with essential human contact.
  • £20 – Our trained Support Worker could provide an essential one-to-one mentoring session for someone who’s recovering from an eating disorder
  • £40 - Help someone recover from trauma by providing a one-to-one adult counselling session
  • £75 – Could enable five ‘walk and talk’ befriending sessions with someone who is lonely
  • £150 - Could help a vulnerable young person to safety via a course of counselling
  • £350 – Can fund our expert trainers to deliver two one-hour mental health awareness sessions to help up to 40 front line keyworkers support each other and themselves.
  • £750 - Can provide a bi-weekly mental health support group for up to 15 people for six months.

The Rewards

Just knowing that your support can and will make a life-changing difference is in itself is an amazing reward - but we are offering these rewards as a thank you for your donations:

In addition –

Everyone who makes a donation will receive a special ‘thank you’ on behalf of our Trustees, Staff, Volunteers and the people of Dorset you’re helping.

If you pledge over £35 one of our team of Ambassadors will record a message to personally thank you online via our Instagram account @dorsetmind.

If you make a donation of over £75 our CEO will personally thank you for your support (we’ll need you to send us your email address).

With your help we can provide life changing support services to make sure NO-ONE in Dorset suffers with mental health illness alone.
