Many cases of domestic abuse are getting worse during lockdown. Help us provide the extra emergency support needed.

New stretch target

If we raise more money we will be able to provide more emergency domestic abuse support during the lockdown.

Many cases of domestic abuse are getting worse during lockdown.  Victims are confined in their homes with their abusers.  Often the control and abuse victims are experiencing is intensifying, and the risks to their safety are increasing.

The Covid 19 outbreak is creating a growing domestic abuse emergency across the world with many countries reporting a huge rise in cases. (1)

In this country, the National Domestic Abuse Hotline reports a 25% increase in demand since lockdown began. (2)

At Trafford Domestic Abuse Services (TDAS) we are getting a dramatic rise in the numbers of calls we receive and more requests for urgent support.  WE NEED YOUR HELP TO RESPOND TO THIS INCREASING DEMAND!

We are currently responding through

  • Offering a variety of communications options e.g. text, call, video call, messaging
  • Getting mobile phones to victims when their current mobile isn't safe to use or they don't have one
  • Increased safety planning work with victims
  • Home safety measures including lock changes
  • Helping with emergency travel costs to get to safety
  • Increased staffing to meet demand
  • Emergency food and cleaning parcels
  • Increased support for children and young people impacted by domestic abuse
  • As well as offering all the critical elements of our usual service remotely

We are working very hard to continue adapt our responses to best meet the growing need. Please help TDAS respond to the crisis by pledging your support.

The Healing Together project we were originally crowdfunding for is still a high priority project for TDAS, but dealing with the current emergency now has to be our top priority.   Aviva have agreed to let us change the project owing to the emergency situation.  To those who supported the Healing Together project; thank you!  We are sorry that we’ve had to change our focus away from this and if you wish to withdraw your pledge then you can.

We have also lowered our fundraising goal to £1000.  This is to enable us to access the funds more quickly – the help is needed straight away!   If we raise more than £1000 all additional money will be spent on our emergency response.

Who we are

Trafford Domestic Abuse Services (TDAS) is a charity that helps those suffering from domestic abuse in the Trafford area of Greater Manchester.  We offer a variety of crucial services including accommodation, work supporting people within the community and work with children and young people who’ve experienced domestic abuse in the home or in their own domestic abuse relationship.  We also offer training to professionals, such as health and social care, so that incidences of domestic abuse are dealt with well by these practitioners.  We work in schools to educate young people about healthy relationships. TDAS has been established for 30 years and has helped many people.  Last year we were able to assist over 1,400 people.   We’ve been nominated and have won awards for the quality of our work and have great relationships with statutory agencies, local organisations and third sector providers; we work in partnership where possible to maximise the effectiveness and cost efficiency of our work.    We hold the Women’s Aid National Quality Standard.
