It was during a lockdown bike ride when our kids came across a bmx track in Norbury, but never in our wildest dreams did we thought that a year on this sport will have completely taken over our family life. It was by a lucky coincidence we met someone from Brixton at the Norbury track who was extremely helpful in encouraging our youngest one to get around the track. It was then when we got to learn about Brixton club and their track in Brockwell Park and that anyone can turn up for the sessions and they even have the bikes and safety gear to borrow if you don't have your own. And that's where our story started.
Brixton BMX with it's founder Ken and all the team have been super supportive, kids have made huge progress and every day spent on a track had been nothing but a joy even with all the crashes and injuries.
Year on and kids have their own bikes and they have even started racing. They have passion in their eyes and they are extremely proud to call themselves members of the Brixton BMX Club. And to see that in kids these days is truly amazing. They will always choose BMX time over screen time and spend every possible minute on the track and that would not happen if it wasn't for team Brixton who always made them feel at home and have given all the right coaching on their way to becoming competitive racers.
But club is community run and the Brockwell Park track desperately needs better, safer, upgraded facilities. We all want this to happen, because for us Brixton BMX means having a safe place for the kids to spend time at and a supportive community behind them when the things get tough and that is irreplaceable.
Together as a club Brixton wants to ride the length of the country on laps at the track to raise the necessary £30'000 that will help with the first upgrades on the track.
We as a family together aim to ride at least 200 laps combined in hope to raise £1000 for the club.
Over the month of October we will try and ride a minimum of 200 laps together, which comes to 40 laps each.
We and the Brixton BMX Club would appreciate your support.
