Discover Children’s Story Centre is an award-winning creative literature venue in Stratford, East London. This year we welcomed over 100,000 children, families and teachers to take part in a wide variety of storytelling and literature events. World renowned authors and illustrators have worked here, including Michael Rosen, Chris Riddell, Lauren Child and Oliver Jeffers. Each year we work with another 20,000 school children in outreach projects, and our literacy programmes run across London, Essex and Hertfordshire.
Discover’s Story Trail is a fabulous place where children can play, explore and create their own stories facilitated by a Story Builder. Originally conceived in consultation with children, teachers and parents, we work with children to get alien Hootah back home to his planet, powered by stories. Together we make up characters from spoon puppets and explore story settings in the Sparkly River and Enchanted Forest to come up with our own original tale.
But our Trail is now 12 years old and showing its age. Our customers have told us they would like more space, better toilet facilities and separate areas for babies and toddlers. We now have the opportunity to expand the Trail so that more children can take part and need your help to make this world of stories bigger and better.
We’ve worked with children, teachers, play consultants and architects to design a new Story Trail over two floors. We would like to build treehouses, look outs, caves and forests. We are planning new sensory areas for babies and toddlers. We would like to create separate spaces for older children and teachers’ workshops. Even a small donation will help us build these magical worlds where children can play, explore and learn.
