Digital Divide; For the young people left behind
The past few months of lockdown we have transitioned and relied on technology to relate, participate in public life and continue our work or education. However, thousands don't have access to the technology needed to do so. Lambeth Citizens will use funds raised to get devices to young people in our communities that would otherwise be left behind.
Lambeth Citizens identified numbers of students through their member institutions who do not have access to suitable technology to be able to access and engage with online lessons and support offered by schools. Government schemes were rolled out, but too many of our children are not ‘eligible’ for support because of their immigration status, family circumstance or income threshold. This is for them.
75 devices were distributed during the summer term of 2020 thanks to generous donations of old laptops, made useable by our IT supporters
This term, we have identified more than 100 students in need at Saint Gabriel’s college and the Angel Town Estate and so we are seeking support to ensure that good quality and secure devices reach our most vulnerable and forgotten young people.
