Dig In For The Cafe In The Park @ CFC Altrincham

We need your help to transform our Cafe's outdoor space - safer access for all, cafe dining in the park, ice cream - a community haven

We did it!

On 20th Jul 2018 we successfully raised £6,276 of £6,156 target with 72 supporters in 49 days

Who Are We?

Cafe In The Park was opened by The Counselling and Family Centre - a mental health & wellbeing charity - in 2015 as a way to extend our reach in the community. We wanted a warm and welcoming place that would improve wellbeing in ways that complemented our counselling and support services. Being involved, feeling connected and belonging are powerful tools to improve mental health and improve people's quality of life.

The Story So Far...

Opening the cafe and cafe lounge was made possible through donations and the hard graft of our staff and volunteers and we are very proud of it's success. This hub of friendliness connects with the community in a multitude of ways. Beyond being a lovely cafe serving good value food and drinks, it hosts a range of groups including baby and toddler and mindfulness classes, a Friday Club for older people, a supportive group for teenage girls and ACOA (Adult Children of Alcoholics). It also offers employment, training and volunteering opportunities across all age groups and abilities.

The big problem - our outside space...

Our wonderful community has got us this far - last Summer we were fortunate to be chosen by a group of local teenagers doing their National Citizen Service who raised £300 and got hands on to clear the area of weeds and brambles and made it a pleasant place to be.

However this used to be a nursery play area and has a soft play surface which is  breaking up badly and access isn't ideal for wheelchairs and buggies. The concrete sectional garage (in red) is blocking what should be the direct access from the road and needs removing. The whole of the hard surface has to be replaced along with the chain link fencing (in red) which is damaged. Disabled access need to be created from the road and also at access points to the inside of the cafe.

Why are we crowdfunding?

The total cost of the essential initial work to the surface, fencing, garage removal and creating a new access is £9,156 and we have £3,000 of our own funds to fund part of the work. So we are crowdfunding for an initial £6,156 to cover the remainder. We have some stretch targets as well related to an ice cream parlour, seating areas, patio heaters and new awnings but none of this will be possible without the basics.

We know this is a big target but as a charity we make a big impact because of the commitment of our staff and large team of volunteers. Our Counselling services are facing unprecedented demand and every penny we have is needed to deliver them.

Last year we supported 853 people through face to face counselling, helped 258 people gain new skills through training and saved our local NHS £867,250. We don't turn anyone away because of ability to pay and earn or raise all our funding ourselves. For more information here's a link to our Impact Report  https://t.co/xFZSdHU3sE

We hope you will enjoy supporting this amazing project, the impact on individuals and the whole community will be significant and anyone can come down and see us to see our work and enjoy the end results!
