Dress for Success Manchester is a registered charity that helps women on low incomes back into paid employment. We do this by firstly giving them a professional outfit and then one-to-one interview training. With the preparation and support our clients confidence levels elevate. We literally dress our clients for success. One in two of the women that we assist get a job.
Our clients before coming to us have been out-of-work for over a year. More than 40% of our clients are single parents. Some of the women come to us are ex-offenders, former drug addicts and they can live in homeless shelters and refuges.
Interview clothes - First impressions count, and in order to create a great first impression you need to look the part. If you have a low income and a limited wardrobe it is very difficult to dress smartly for an interview. This is a massive stumbling point for many women. This is where we make a difference, as we dress our clients in smart clothing for interviews. This has the added benefit of giving them a confidence boost, and making them feel fabulous as well as look it. We have a selection of professional work wear donated by women and retailers that we dress our clients in. Our trained stylists spend an hour with each client dressing them in smart clothing for their job interview. Being dressed-for-success elevates our clients confidence levels, which we believe gives them the confidence to succeed. The clients get to keep the clothing so that they can wear them to each interview they attend. If they get a job, they can come back to us for a second appointment to give them a selection of clothing that they can wear to their new job.
Interview training – After our client has been dressed in her interview clothing we then offer her a one-to-one with a professional women with a background in high-level management or recruitment. During this our professional woman gets our client ready to present herself with confidence to her future employer. After this one-to-one our clients are able to speak about themselves with ease, overcome their anxieties, and are ready to impress their future employers.
Our additional programmes - Throughout the year we run other programmes to help women improve their chances of gaining employment and retaining it once they’ve got the job. Some of our programmes are run in partnership with corporate supporters.
Professional Mentoring - A mentoring scheme to assist clients who need on-going support of another professional woman to help them stay on track with their job search and progress with their career.
Professional Women’s Group (PWG) - A networking group that meets on the last Wednesday of the month at Dress for Success. The PWG is for former clients who are now working to help them make friends and learn new skills. **Launches later in 2013.
The support you provide will enable us to purchase a second hand van which can be used to carry out suit drives, enable donations to be collected, allow us to transport clients when necessary and finally be used in the day-to-day activities for the charity.
Excuse the fact the video is the US version - we will be producing a UK version once we have sufficient funds too!
