Help defend democracy and freedom of expression in Argyll & Bute Council

We did it!

As an elected councillor for the Dunoon ward of Argyll & Bute Council, I believe that my right to properly represent my constituents is under threat. Two complaints have been made against me, one of which remains outstanding.

The outstanding complaint was made by the 4 most senior officers of the council and while I cannot give much by way of detail at this stage, suffice to say that on 3 issues, this complaint has had the effect of partially silencing me. I have stood up for my local community over the sale of Castle Toward; I have tried hard to do something about the illegal wages paid to local care workers and I have argued that the manner in which we manage our ports and harbours is against the interests of the local community.

For both complaints I have had to engage a solicitor to defend me and it's to assist with the legal costs that I am doing this crowdfunding project. The very basis of our local democracy is under threat in my view and it's essential that the freedom of expression of councillors is upheld.

Please help with this. Any surplus funds will be given to a locally based charity and a full account will be provided on my blog about what I have spent and what has been raised.
