The route to achieving the Paris goals requires steep and immediate reductions in emissions. Carbon literacy is key in bringing about change. We have an accredited Carbon Literacy course and with additional funds we can improve and more widely deliver it, increasing climate action.
Despite high profile media coverage and increasing urgency, the science of climate change is daunting and can be difficult to understand and is a barrier to everyone owning the problem. Even those who feel inspired to act are often unsure about what to do. Overall, carbon literacy levels are low across all levels of society and the outdoor community.
When people understand the issue, they are more motivated and able to take action, meaning training is a hugely effective way to empower change.
POW UK has developed a 1 day Carbon Literacy Training course, accredited by the UN-recognised Carbon Literacy Project (CLP). It is designed to give anyone an awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis. We intend to deliver it to our community as widely as possible and want to turn it into and ELearning module. Doing this will enable more people to access it.
