Durham County Youth Choir have been offered the opportunity to sing in the first American performance of "This Joyous Night," a Christmas Cantata by North-East composer Alan Woods, their former Musical Director of 15 years. They would be accompanied by Carnegie Hall's own professional orchestra under the direction of Manvinder Rattan, the Musical Director who originally commissioned the work.
The Youth Choir have been fortunate to sing in some outstanding venues in the past, but Carnegie Hall is a dream that until now has been just too far beyond their reach. Now that the opportunity has arisen, we are doing all we can to ensure this incredible experience can be achieved for our young singers. The project comes with considerable costs, but we want it to be available for all. We are therefore asking for support to ensure we can secure our place at Carnegie Hall this December. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our talented youngsters, and a chance for them to share their local culture futher afield, whilst working with the composer and learning about the creative process of compostion and performance, culminating in a truly memorable performance.
