“We don’t teach math solely to create mathematicians, and we don’t teach writing solely to create the next generation of novelists. The same holds true for the arts. We teach them to create well-rounded citizens who can apply the skills, knowledge and experience from being involved in the arts to their careers and lives.” You, Your Child and School: Navigate Your Way to the Best Education by Sir Ken Robinson and Lou Aronica.
We would like to raise funds to create a dance studio at White Rock Primary School. Currently the school has a single space, used for indoor dance, PE, gymnastics, visiting speakers and learning break spaces for pupils with SEND. We are desperately in need of an additional space to enhance the school’s current Physical Education curriculum and improve the pupils’ health and physical well-being.
Studies have shown that dance helps girls overcome emotional barriers, such as fear of judgement and low self-esteem, encouraging positive body image and maintaining mental health. Whereas dances provides an avenue for boys to manage their feelings and enables them to explore emotions they may not be able to express.
Importantly the space is being designed with a multi-use function. Currently the school’s wrap-around care, breakfast and after school clubs, are run in a spare classroom, which will have to accommodate a class from September 2019. It will also have an external entrance so that it can be used in the evenings and weekends without having to enter the school building. This will help improve community engagement, by creating a great facility that can enjoyed by existing groups such as Zumba and Sway Dance and attract new organisations and activities. We would love to hear your suggestions as to how we can make the best use of this room!
Your money will go towards creating this wonderful space – about 80 square metres, and fitting it with specialist flooring, floor to ceiling mirrors and high-quality dance equipment.
Please look at the rewards we are offering in return for your pledges and see what support you can give. You only have 4 weeks to get your invitation to the opening of the dance studio or be rewarded with a free dance lesson!
