Over and above this I will need to fund the mirrors and bench for changing area, paint, doors for cupboards in studio, acrobatics equipment.
The dance studio will be great for the community to have a purpose made space to train not only in dance but other sporting activities, as it will be available to hire out to local groups/clubs. It is located in the old Belhaven Brewery building situated at Spott Road Industrial Estate, EH42 1RS. The building is almost ready with sound proofing being installed at the start of August.
We are fundraising for dance flooring, mirrors, and ballet barres with brackets to attach to the walls.
Over and above this I will need to fund the mirrors and bench for changing area, paint, doors for cupboards in studio, acrobatics and dance equipment.
We are holding fundraising events within the dance school and local community to help raise the extra funds required.
Dance Discovery has grown over the years becoming a dance family with over 150 students attending every week. We deliver affordable dance classes for 18months to adults in Modern/Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Commercial, Hip hop, Acrobatics, Contemporary, Highland and Clubbercise.
We have 4 professional dance teachers who we couldn't do this without - Johnny Mac, Holly McDonald, Delphi Doig and Clare Conafray.
Clare Conafray set up Dance Discovery in 2013, taking over from SMB School of Dance which was run by Sam Ball.
Clare graduated in 2004 from Dance For All at the Theatre School in Edinburgh gaining an HND in Professional stage dance along with RAD Ballet and ISTD Modern and Tap teaching qualifications. Recently she has went on to gain teaching qualifications in Highland Dancing, Clubbercise and Acrobatics Arts.
We help and support students on their venture to achieve their goals. Delphi Doig is our most recent graduate from dance college.
My name is Delphin Doig and I have recently graduated from Performing Arts Studio Scotland (PASS) with a First Class BA Honours Degree in Dance. I have been an assistant teacher at Dance Discovery for three years now and love being a part of such a supportive, enthusiastic and positive team. Being a teacher at Dance Discovery has helped me to become confident in my ability to teach individually and as a team, which has benefited me greatly throughout my time as a dance student. After joining the Dance Discovery team I have gone onto teach in many theatres, schools and colleges around Scotland as well as have my taught work showcased in many shows and projects such as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Being a teacher at Dance Discovery has allowed me to spread my love for dance with the students and teach them how to be the best version of them self, not only in terms of dance but as a human being.
Dance Discovery have strong links in the community and we play a big part in all the local school events helping fundraising when required and participating in all the community events that take place throughout the year.
Civic Week, Lifeboat Day and the Christmas Lights Switch On are a few events we participate in and perform dance routines to entertain the local community.
Our dance students perform in local care homes which the residents love and get a lot from.
We raise funds for Children in Need every November by taking part in a Tapathon Event which is held throughout the UK. This is a great opportunity to tap alongside fellow tap dancing enthusiasts, of all ages and fitness levels, in an attempt to smash a current world record and help raise funds for charity.
We sponsor Dunbar Rugby Club annually and in return they have an advertising banner on their Rugby pitches for us.
We do weekly dance classes in Dunbar Primary School through Gareth Hill at Active Schools.
We voluntary offer dance classes in school hours for Health Week etc.
Our annual shows are held at The Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh providing the students with a great experience of performing in a Theatre which in return improves their confidence.
We hold Royal Academy of Dance, and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing Exams - which we have 100% pass rate.
It would be ideal to have a dance studio to offer the examiners (from across the world) to come to and examine our dance students in their own space that they are confident performing in.
These exams are now recognised to award qualifications on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF), by SQA Accreditation, a part of the Scottish Qualifications Authority.
