My dad (70) traveled to the U.S in late Feb for a wedding. He has been stuck there due to the travel lockdown. I arranged for a rental place in Raleigh. Unfortunately he had a stroke on March 26th and subsequently developed significant kidney impairment. He cannot return to the UK for treatment and he does not have insurance in the U.S. His aunt's family in US has come down temporarily to take care of him. Most unfortunately, I am unable to be beside him at this hour, due to the travel lockdown. He has been on Haemodialysis so far (3 times a week), however he is now recommended a Kidney Transplant asap.
Doctors at Duke health have estimated the cost of transplant (plus critical hospital care for 3-4 weeks post surgery) to be anywhere upwards of $400,000. Currently I have been managing the dialysis & accommodation costs so far, with our family savings and the help of our relatives and few friends. Each session of dialysis costs roughly $850. With the corona situation, risk of infection and mortality is quite high for him. Obviously time and resources both are running out fast to make this treatment feasible. I am reaching out to the wonderful community of givers here, for empathy and comfort, as much as much needed time that I can buy to see him survive this Corona season. So even reading this and offering a comforting comment would quarantine the anxieties a little further.
Thank you lovely hearts!
