Curious Festival celebrates it's fifth year of queering the North East in 2020, support us to reach more young people and community members!

Curious Festival is 5!
Celebrating its 5th year of queering the North East in 2020, Curious Festival has seen over one hundred events, hundreds of artists and thousands of participants and audience members contribute to our ongoing aim that LGBTQIA+ people are represented in the North East's cultural offer.
Curious Festival began in 2016 as we believed that everyone should be able to access high quality LGBTQIA+ arts activity and with your and our partners' support, every year the festival continues to grow and develop very quickly, responding to the interest and need across our region and picking up a few awards on the way!
In 2020, we are back and even bigger with events from Northumberland to Teesside, celebrating and championing Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer + culture and continuing our mission to develop LGBTQIA+ arts, audiences, artists and participation opportunities.
Your support is crucial to Curious Festival's development and resilience - if you're able to support us this year, here's just two of the ways you'd make a huge difference...
Queer Creative Challenge (Young People)
In 2018 we worked with 14-25yr olds based in Newcastle Gateshead to explore what its like to be young and LGBTQ in the North East. The young people worked with Artists to develop creative responses which were showcased at Live Theatre is Curious, creating an incredibly powerful launch to Curious Festival 2018.
So powerful that in 2019, we did it all over again! With the help of our Crowdfunder supporters we were able to supply workshop materials, engage visiting Artists and cover the support of our Festival Young Peoples Co-ordinators. The image above shows Northern Stage's Young Company on the Live Theatre stage kicking off Curious Festival 2019.
Your support will help us do it all again in 2020 at our Young People's Showcase on the 11th July!
In 2016 we successfully crowdfunded for community groups including LGBTQ Asylum Seekers Group 'Rainbow Home' and 'MESMAC' Young Peoples Group to attend Curious Festival activities.
In 2019, our Crowdfunder pay-it-forward scheme allowed Rainbow Home's service users to attend Curious Festival performances including Rent Party at Northern Stage and our biggest Curious Vogue Ball yet at Dance City.
Your support will help us to continue to remove barriers to participation including ticket costs and supporting people to comfortably attend with their groups/with a support worker where appropriate.
