Croydonites is a festival of new theatre and performance for Croydon, featuring artists from across the UK. We may only be 20 minutes from central London by train, but somehow a lot of what's happening there, never makes it here. For a big borough, there's not a massive amount of choice when it comes to theatre and we want to change that.

There's a lot to shout about in our town, new venues are appearing, not so new ones are improving and the population is hungry for something different. Well we've got that in buckets (or is it spades?).

The festival will happen over two weeks in November, the line-up features work that's created by the artists who perform it (there's no straight plays here). It includes pieces that are confrontational, controversial, political, autobiographical, surreal, hilarious and downright brilliant. You probably won't recognise any of these names, but you won't forget them.

The artists are:

Jim Barnard - Scallywag Theatre / Stan - UK Premiere

12 Nov Theatre Utopia at Matthews Yard

Puppet theatre to twist your head and warm your heart, see him in action here:

Stan - Behind You (contains strong language)

Figs in Wigs / Show Off

14 Nov - Theatre Utopia at Matthews Yard

...dressing big issues one sequin at a time...

Jonzi D / The Letter: to be or to...MBE?

18-19 November at Stanley Halls

The father of Hip Hop Theatre presents his charismatic solo show about being awarded an MBE.

Kate O'Donnell / Big Girl's Blouse

20 November at Stanley Halls

– ‘A Manchester legend’ Time Out Manchester

Why should you fund Croydonites? It's a good question. Because we need live performance especially on the periphery. It all feeds into the mainstream eventually, making our culture eclectic and unique. Without this type of work you wouldn't get the same quality produced by the West End, the National Theatre, the BBC... I could go on. It's also a training ground for a generation of actors, entertainers, technicians and producers. We are admired the world over for our creativity and it all starts here. Rest assured we are putting our hearts and souls into this (as well as some cold hard cash).
