Crewe Vagrants Covid19 Return to Sport Appeal
We did it
On 4th August 2020 we successfully raised £7,514 with 76 supporters in 28 days

The Covid outbreak brought a halt to income from the middle of March at the Sports Club. We need income to sustain ongoing sport.

New stretch target

The initial money will help fund the basic running costs of the club. Without the club, Sports and community life at the Vagrants will not continue.

We have reduced our overheads as much as possible, this still leaves around £3000 per month covering :

- Utility payments, security payments, insurance  and financial charges

- Pitch maintenance

- Additional safety measure required for Covid19  to ensure safety.

Extra money raised will be used to modernise and improve existing club facilities.

If you have enjoyed the Crewe Vagrants Facilities over the years, please support our cause.

Our Club

SEMEL ERRO, SEMPER ERRO

Once a Wanderer, Always a Wanderer

The COVID-19 outbreak brought a halt to income from the middle of March at Crewe Vagrants Sports Club. The club house events ceased along with all sporting activities within the grounds. The club supports Hockey, Cricket and Squash to be played year long in the South Cheshire region. It is also the home ground to Crewe and Nantwich Rugby Club and used as a base by South Cheshire Harriers Running Club.

Our mission statement - Embrace the Sports of the club of the club and encourage participation in them, secure their future and the enjoyment of all members. All sports run active Junior sections, supporting activity in the local community.

Where do we fit into the community?

The Vagrants is more than just a Sport Club ,we are a social hub within the community.

We are proud to support charity groups and offer facilities free of charge to these organisations.

  • Christies Cancer Care
  • St Lukes Hospice
  • Cancer Research
  • Nantwich Food Bank

We have collected cans to help build a new Scout Hut for Willaston Scout Group over the past 5 years.

We have regular meetings for weightwatchers to help improve peoples weight and health. BNI have their breakfast meetings with us - this is a business network for small local businesses to work within the community.

Before the Pandemic we were home to the Rotary club, hosting their weekly meetings.

Nature Watch have sessions at the club, usually involving older people of the community where they can socialise and enjoy nature.

We pride ourselves in supporting Youth Sport to all. Outside our Core sports we are also home to Rugbytots, introducing children from the age of 5 to gain skills relating to Rugby and social skills. Tumbletots sessions are held within the club house, introducing young children relating to coordination and balance.

Local schools such as Brine Lees, use the site for Cross Country activities, rugby and hockey, as do Reaseheath College and Keele University.

Why are we crowdfunding now  ?

While still financially sound, the club has experienced an interruption in income, with no social events being held or planned, and the cancellations of the weekly car boot sales, the bills have still been arriving for pitch maintenance and the use of utilities. These haven’t stopped with Covid-19.

The initial money will help fund the basic running costs of the club. Without the club, Sports and community life at the Vagrants will not continue.

Overheads have been reduced as much as possible, this still leaves around £3000 per month covering :

  • Utility payments - electricity, sewerage
  • Security - as the venue has remained largely empty during lockdown, security measures have needed to be increased - installation of more cameras, installation of gate security barriers.
  •  Insurance
  •  Financial charges
  • Pitch maintenance of the Astro Turf, Cricket pitch and the squash courts. This also includes flood light maintenance and pest control - we have some new resident moles. The grass areas needs regular cutting.
  •  Wages - minimal people are employed to run and staff the bar.
  •  Additional safety measures required for Covid19  to ensure safety.

Extra money raised will be used to modernise and improve existing club facilities - the clubhouse has relatively recently been  decorated. The toilet and shower facilities could be improved to the same standard.

Crewe Vagrants supporting Sports for generations to come

Crewe Vagrants Sports Ground provides a vital source of physical activity and social interaction across our local community, offering access to hockey, squash, cricket and rugby coaching, match play and social events for adults and juniors alike. The club also runs a 5 a-side football league weekly.

Over a busy week the footfall can be around 800 people within the ground, with players and supporters.

The current pandemic restrictions means the club house can open but with very limited access, but the club are keen to get the sports up and running and getting people active after this period of community lockdown.

Hockey

We host 4 men’s and 4 ladies teams playing through mixed abilities. We have been a pilot scheme for “Hockey Heroes” an England Hockey initiative aimed to target those children who have limited access to sporting opportunities.

We have a thriving junior section, ranging from 5-13 year olds who train regularly during the school terms

We have an active social side and we’re sad that this season was not to be celebrated in person within our Clubhouse. This has seen another lose of revenue.

The hockey community are a family on and off the pitch, 40 members recently sponsored a local Beehive during lockdown, with the bees pollinating our grounds, supporting local a business and understanding and learning about the importance of these biodiverse little pollinators.

The club has a growing ladies section with 2 sessions each week dedicated to women's squash and squash 57.

We actively encourage Juniors to play. There are two Junior squash sessions. The first session is aimed at mini-squash players (Aged from 5 – 11) and the second session is aimed at more advanced players (Aged 11 upwards).

These junior sessions are open to both club members and non-club members.

The content of the sessions varies, and are designed to be fun, with games and competitions, which together with progressive coaching, will develop young players from beginners to adults.

Cricket

We have an active Senior and Junior Section. We are looking forward to starting the Senior Season late with our 2 senior teams. We have 4 nets at the club and move to indoor nets in a local school in the winter break.
