Creative Surgery
We did it
On 8th November 2018 we successfully raised £350 with 11 supporters in 28 days

Keep a sustainable volunteer offer which is important for our local users and our community organisation.

For 8 years we have been running our volunteer service with no funding. Over the years 430 volunteers have accessed the service and currently we have 12 regular volunteers. We are open every Tuesday and the idea is that you get an excellent way of gaining new skills and hands on experience.

What Creative Surgery can offer:

  • Help out at Art4Space's arts studio with general tasks.
  • Volunteer time on Art4Space's community art projects (often mosaic).
  • Help to write references, support with funding and applications.
  • Discuss a creative idea with Art4Space or a project participants need help with.
  • Once registered the participant will also join Art4Space's supporters database where they will receive the organisation's newsletter and access their signposting service: to connect and inspire people to strengthen their communities.

Art4Space's Creative Surgery has helped participants to get back to work, build up confidence, and inspired to set up own projects. It's also for people who like giving something back to their community, and all of them help to create all the amazing community art projects you see around in Lambeth.

"Although I have lived in Stockwell most of my life, I have never found anywhere to get involved locally within the arts and volunteering. Since coming to Art4space, I have found a community around the corner where I can use my creativity to help others. Through Art4Space I have worked with my community that I had always felt outside from, doing projects involving the local neighbourhood including Stockwell Festival, workshops, art auctions, etc.

Art4Space is a warm and welcoming environment, a safe and inspiring place to come where we work together and feel part of a team, both socially and creatively. In all my years in Stockwell I have never found anywhere like this, a real gem in London. My father who has had a stroke has been welcomed with open arms on Art4Space volunteer days. He thoroughly enjoys it and gives my mother (his carer) a break as she knows he’s in a safe place. I have met and worked with volunteers from all walks of life and worked with all ages and feel supported, encouraged and inspired. Everyone is treated like a friend. I personally have been through some tough times lately with unemployment and depression, Art4Space has been a haven to lift me out of my doldrums, I come here to relax and always leave uplifted"

With ever increasing financial restraints we need help to keep this much valued service going on.

The money raised will pay for a Volunteer Manager every Tuesday at £15ph from 12 pm to 5 pm. That’s £300 per month. It would be wonderful to sustain the service for 2019, but this means we need to raise £3,600.

Art4Space is still happy to offer the rest in-kind.
