Any money that we receive through the Aviva crowdfunder we'll put towards replacing external play equipment and repair playground surfaces. We want to create safe, engaging, outdoor spaces that encourage activity and creative play - inspiring curiosity and challenge for children throughout the school.
Our school is in a suburb of South West London, the main playground is right up next to an A-road overpass, across the road from a train line, and in the middle of a busy residential area. If we want to provide an amazing and challenging environment for our children to explore, then we need to build it. The original wooden climbing frames and play equipment is nearing end of life, and some has needed to be fenced off for safety.
Within the current tight school budgets it is difficult to spend on creating brilliant outdoor play space, and yet we see how important it is for our children's physical and mental well being. The school is working through due diligence on selecting a playground company and setting the scope based on replacing & repairing original equipment.
Friends of West Wimbledon is a charity made up of parents, carers and friends of the school to support the school with school community events and fund raising. We are working with the school to support this initiative to build up the funds needed from the school budget, Friends of West Wimbledon school community fund raising, and through the opportunity to reach out further via Aviva.
