In association with Belgrade Theatre in Coventry, OperaUpClose is producing a new English version of Puccini’s Madam Butterfly.

One of the best-loved operas of all time, Madam Butterfly’s glorious music and tragic story have enchanted audiences for more than a century. This ground-breaking reimagining of Puccini’s masterpiece will be told from a female, East-Asian perspective, performed by a diverse-led cast of talented singers and musicians.

You can help make this opera possible by donating a note, chord, melody, aria, scene, or act of our new version of Madam Butterfly. 

You will be sent a PDF with your note/chord/melody/aria/scene/act - the perfect gift for yourself, a loved one, and the opera community!*

  • Note – £2: your note sent to you
  • Chord – £10: your chord sent to you with an official certificate of thanks
  • Melody – £60: your melody sent to you along with a recording and an official certificate of thanks
  • Aria – £250: your aria sent to you, an official certificate of thanks, and your name in the programme and score
  • Scene – £500: your scene sent to you, an official certificate of thanks, your name in the programme and score and an invite to a behind-the-scenes sharing of our work so far on Madam Butterfly in October
  • Act – £1000: all of the above + lunch with the director of Madam Butterfly and two tickets to a performance of Madam Butterfly of your choice

Puccini’s later operas, like Tosca and Madam Butterfly, are known for long-breathed instrumental passages, with melodies that leave audiences breathless. Donating a melody will help us bring these dazzling tunes to stages all over the country! You’ll be sent a PDF and recording of *your melody*, an official certificate of thanks, and the knowledge you helped create this production!

It’s no doubt Puccini’s arias are exquisite. Be it the hopeful and powerful Un bel di vedremo or the pleasure-filled Dovunque al mondo, Puccini sure knew how to tug on our heartstrings. Help us tug on a few heart strings? Not only will you be sent *your aria* and a certificate of thanks, but your name will appear in the score and programme of Madam Butterfly, so our cast & audiences will know that you made this production possible!

£500 – a scene

One of Madam Butterfly’s most touching scenes is the love duet between Pinkerton and Butterfly at the end of Act 1. If you donate a scene, you will be invited to an intimate, behind-the-scenes sharing of our work so far on Madam Butterfly, which will include the scene you made possible! You will also be sent *your scene*, a certificate of thanks, and your name will appear in our score and programme.

£1000 - an act

The intense emotional and narrative journey within this opera builds and builds act upon act… Donating an act, you will receive all of the aforementioned benefits, as well as *your act* sent to you, lunch with the director of Madam Butterfly and two tickets to a performance of Madam Butterfly of your choice.
