Project: Cranbrook Primary ICT Suite
Cranbrook Church of England Primary School desperately needs to upgrade and refurbish its ICT Suite.
The current computers are old and slow and frustrating for the children to use which has a detrimental impact on their learning. We want to give our children full access to the computing curriculum and we want them to LOVE their ICT lessons!
We've been advised that it will cost approximately £10K to upgrade the computers. We also plan to create a calm and focused Study Zone within the ICT Suite for pupils to work in during lessons and from which to run the very successful after-school Home Learning Club. The Home Learning Club gives students the chance to complete their homework in a quiet, calm environment, supervised by school staff, to give them extra support. It is particularly appreciated by those students who do not have computers or internet access at home. Despite being situated in the beautiful small town of Cranbrook in Kent, the school's intake has an unusually high level of social disadvantage - for example, the proportion of pupils in receipt of the Pupil Premium is "much higher than average" (OFSTED report 2017).
Creating an Inspiring Learning Environment:
Currently, the ICT room is dark and uninspiring for students. We KNOW we can make it into an amazing space - we recently transformed the School Library, with lots of help from parents, carers, governors and friends of the school. It was a real team effort! In the same way, we want to make the ICT Suite into a fantastic resource that the children will really enjoy using.
As a PTA ("Friends of Cranbrook Primary School"), we have been busy raising funds towards this project but, as a small, rural school, it is difficult to raise the total amount needed on our own. The amount that we're asking for would allow us to go ahead and complete the entire project this school year, instead of needing to wait a further two or possibly three years. In short, it would be FANTASTIC news for all the children who are at Cranbrook Primary now, as well as the students of the future. We have 160 students on roll, all of whom would benefit hugely.
What Impact Will This Have?
ICT is so important in so many different areas these days - a real skill for life. Being able to afford new computers and new software, and giving the space a total transformation will have a real and lasting impact on our children's education by giving them skills that will stay with them. And, you never know, we might just have the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs on roll!
And, of course, ICT skills reach right across the curriculum. Cranbrook Primary already uses online resources such as Mathletics and Spellodrome to engage and excite learners. Through the creation of the Study Zone, children will have a richer environment in which to learn across all subjects.
Please, please help us to make a huge difference to our learning community!
