I have recently launched an event called 'Crafternoon Tea' at The Greenbank Pub in Easton, Bristol. We offer a welcoming environment for people to be creative while enjoying a drink with new friends. We encourage people to bring their art projects, craft supplies, ideas or just themselves. It is an opportunity to socialise while also having the opportunity to practice mindfulness and art therapy.
This event was created when I was diagnosed with anxiety and signed off work as I was on the cusp of an emotional breakdown. I have had to deal with a high volume of stress this last year and I was struggling to find healthy coping strategies to combat my anxiety. I knew that tapping in to my creative side would help me feel more in control of my anxiety but I would often struggle to find the motivation to start a project or I would find it lonely to work on a creative project at home.
When sharing my feelings with a friend, I found out that I wasn't alone in feeling like it was difficult to find the motivation to work on a creative project. Oftentimes it is hard to find free time just for you when we are constantly juggling commitments at work and at home. That's when I realised that if we provide a positive and welcoming space, more and more people can tap into their creativity. I also hope that this regular event brings the community together and allows people the opportunity to learn new skills in a comfortable space.
'Crafternoon Tea' launched on the 15th July and the next event has been booked for the 12th August. From September onwards, we will be running the event on a fortnightly basis and all our proceeds are donated to Art Refuge UK based in Bristol. Art Refuge UK is an independent charity that supports displaced people through art making and art therapy - www.artrefugeuk.org.
As all the costs of starting this event have come out of my own pocket, I thought I'd reach out to friends and family to ask for your donations towards helping this event become a well-loved creative sanctuary in Bristol. Your donations will help pay for craft supplies, advertising space, promotional materials, fundraising events and building a website. Even just a few pounds would make a big difference.
If you can't afford to donate to 'Crafternoon Tea', please help our cause by liking our social media pages (links listed below), sharing the Just Giving page and/or telling friends about our regular event at The Greenbank Pub in Easton - https://thegreenbankbristol.co.uk.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and I'd be eternally grateful for any support you can give to this cause.
Big love to you all!
