After suffering with postnatal OCD and intrusive thoughts after my second child I realised the shortfall in support for mums suffering with a perinatal mental illness. I decided to start a peer support group aimed at those suffering with perinatal mental illnesses as well as providing actitivities and inviting speakers that help promote and support positive mental wellbeing.
The group has been well received and well attended and has also benefitted my own wellbeing and recovery.
My vision is to have safe accessible peer support to others who are suffering with perinatal mental illness. As services are always becoming more over stretched and under funded, we would like to offer counselling sessions for those that attend the group. We have many women who attend that can have long waits in between appointments and services when they most need the contact with professionals and therefore would like to be able to offer someone to chat to every week if needed. We believe this service will be invaluable to those who need it.
