I am an ordinary Mum and housewife going on the adventure of a life time for a brilliant cause thats close to my heart.
In may this year (2016) I will be trekking to Everest Basecamp in aid of St Oswald's hospice in Newcastle. I am documenting my journey from my couch through fundraising and training to the trek itself, on my blog www.couchtobasecamp.wordpress.com. I have already raised over £2500 for St Oswald's https://www.justgiving.com/couchtobasecamp2015 I am more than half way to my target.
I have set up this project to help raise funds for my kit, sleeping bag, down jacket and water proof amongst other things.
As the mother and carer of a child with cerebral palsy I have spent too many years feeling alone and isolated, signing up for this trek has not only got me off the couch and out into the hills and mountains but it has also improved my confidence, my mental and physical health and my self esteem. I want to show other parents in similar situations that life can carry on, that the care you give yourself is as important as the care you give your child.
After my trek I would like inspire people to help them achieve their goals, maybe through motivational speaking, telling my story of this journey and possibly through walking or running. This journey so far for me has been life changing and I haven't even got to basecamp yet. Please support me if you can and share my project with your friends, family and co-workers.
