Cornwall Coffee and Cake Creatives' Club

Not quite
Unfortunately this project was not successful.

A brand new network for Creatives in Cornwall. Networking can be invaluable, it can also be the thing that you dread the most. The Fives network (Cornwall Coffee & Cake Creatives Club) is about getting rid of all the things people hate about traditional networking, and making this work for us, as Creatives. The reasons why - and how this network seeks to address some of those problems are listed below. Geographic isolation. This is a rural county, with poor transport links. We move the network around the county, with an emphasis on car sharing, and being as close to public transport links as we can be. There will also be webinars for shared learning and best practice. Personal isolation. Creatives tend to work on their own, and this can be really isolating. We also know for example, that depression is unusually high in these industries, because of things like isolation and the type of work we do (deadlines, stress, paucity of work, low wages etc.) Cornwall as a Creative Capital. Cornwall has always attracted artists, but its not just about painters, we are home to award-winning writers, editors, photographers, animators, artists, crafters, filmmakers etc. We believe, if you're looking for Creative professionals, you should be looking at Cornwall, first. Not least because the Creative Industries contribute billions to our national economy each year, and we want as much of that spent in Cornwall as possible. We also want to inspire those working in these areas (and encourage new, and next generation Creatives) that this is a vibrant, sustainable and cutting edge industry. Mid-morning meetings. Many networks meet before work or early evening. This often doesn't suit our needs. There is much evidence - albeit largely anecdotally - that people in the Creative Industries start later, and finish later. Plus for those with children, early mornings and evenings are out! Informal, friendly and encouraging. There is no qualification or justification needed for being part of this network. A sack full of awards or just starting out, if you're a Creative in Cornwall, there's space for you here. Broad church. Many networks are based on quite broad areas; gender networks, or networks for small business. Consequently there may be nothing specific for you. After all, being a writer, for example, is very different to being a small shop owner, or an accountant. Creatives can be taken less seriously as well. And the work we do, is often not understood until such time as a book is published, or a film is made. In other words, until there is tangible evidence and a popular culture framework for what you do. Partnerships. This network aims to encourage partnership working, which in turn enables a Creative to take on bigger and better paid jobs (if that's appropriate for them) and learn from one another. Coffee and cake. Supporting independent businesses along the way. Our meeting - and having coffee and cake - enriches other small business. Win, win! The funding I'm looking for is to: Organise meeting rooms and guest speakers Create a membership scheme Improve the website (currently a blog: http://cornwallcoffeeandcake.wordpress.com/) Do a marketing campaign to ensure no Creative is left behind! Create a travel assistance programme for low or no pay Creatives Webinars from industry experts

A brand new network for Creatives in Cornwall! Networking can be invaluable, it can also be the thing that you dread the most. We've all stood there staring at our feet thinking, does the fact I'm wearing trainers, and that the one business card I have left has a jam stain on it, count against me?!

The FiveCs network (Cornwall Coffee & Cake Creatives Club) is about getting rid of all the things people hate about traditional networking, and making this work for us, as Creatives.

But this is just about a group of people who have choosen a career than can be challenging, the Creative industries are vital to our local and national economies.

The reasons why - and how this network seeks to address some of those problems are listed below in our short film** but can be summed up:

Geographic isolation

Personal isolation

Cornwall as a Creative Capital

Meetings at the right time for us (i.e. not at 7am or after work, but around mid-morning!)

Informal, friendly, encouraging.

A network by a Creative, for Creatives.

Partnerships and Collaboration.

And why we need funding is for:

Website improvements, £100

Membership scheme, £60

Travel fund for members (over two years), £300

Travel expenses for speakers (over one year), £200

Social and profile raising events, £350

Webinars, £150

Room bookings (over two year), £120

A big arty thank you for taking the time to read this and checking out the film. It is important, and we do appreciate your interest.

** Please excuse the rather basic film! A nice one was shot, got damaged and another one had to be filmed with a day's notice. Nothing like a bit of excitement to start a project!
