High Trees Community Development

7th May 2020

WOW- what an incredible 10 days its been

Can you believe it- in just 10 days, thanks to your help we have managed to reach 100% of our target, and we can't thank everyone who have donated, promoted and championed this cause. The sense of community has been incredible and its great to see the difference the project is already making.  Its been a busy 10 days to say the least, however so much has already been achieved in such a small space of time:

  • We've provided 59 individuals or families with laptops or tablets
  • We've provided 24 household with mobile wifi
  • We've supported 15 adult learners to get online since having their devices and enrol in some online courses- Here is Toufic, who was one of our first recipients getting enrolled on our online maths course with the help of High Trees employment advisor, Giuseppe:

  • We've enabled over 60 young people to access their online schoolwork from the family laptops provided. Heres two of them getting started already:

  • We've secured support from a  fantastic local IT company (Comm-Tech) who have committed their time to help configure the laptops with access to apps, software and security required so everyone can access the services they need safely.
  • We've provided information packs to all the households supported on the Covid-19 support services available to them
  • We've set up a helpline number if any of the individuals need 1:1 support with IT questions or getting online
  • Lastly, the project was even featured on the BBC News last week, which helped raise awareness of the issue.

Next week is set to be as busy with a delivery expected of 40 more laptops and 20 mobile Wifi devices, being set up and delivered as fast as they can to the individuals who have been referred in. The referrals are flowing and we are trying to make sure we can support as many people as possible.  With this in mind we've already moved on to a new stretch target of £20,000, because what is really clear to us is that digital connectivity is a really huge issue for the communities in which we work, and want to ensure that no one misses out!

As always please keep an eye out on the Updates pages and on our Twitter channels to get live updates on the campaign as it progresses:
