I was planning my wedding in 2013 and had my first manic episode which lead to me being sectioned in St Charles Hospital for 28 days. After being discharged i became severely depressed and was diagnosed with BiPolar Disorder. My social worker referred me to a mental health football project, FulhamFC Foundation ran an employment hub and offered me a FA level 1 coaching course. I completed the course and began coaching the team, a year later Surrey FA funded me to go on a small-sided refereeing course and I began refereeing adult/children disability football.
Last year in July i created Minds United Football Club to support adults with lived experience of mental health issues by providing weekly sessions and entering a mental health league/wellbeing tournaments. I wanted to provide a platform for people to be creative and express themselves, we want to raise money to place adults from the community on FA refereeing/ coaching courses. After gaining the qualifications individuals will be offered voluntary positions within the club to gain experience and give them a positive pathway.
