Not all children thrive in mainstream education, for a variety of reasons. We’re not made to fit into a mould and shouldn’t be made to feel as if we need to.
This farm school will provide alternative education to children from ages 4-18, in a number of ways.
It can also be used by local schools to teach about the environment, farming, gardening etc.
It can be an alternative school for children who aren’t able to manage mainstream school for whatever reason.
The mental health of young people is very close to my heart and getting young people out around wildlife, nature and animals is an extremely good way to improve mental health and lower anxiety levels. Being involved in a community project also raises levels of self esteem.
It will start off small and expand over time. It will be accessible to all, whatever their level of income.
No chemicals will be used on the farm and it will be extremely eco friendly.
Each child will work at their own pace. If they choose to complete a qualification it will be available as they get to the older age of the school. Most importantly we will listen to children and what their needs and desires are. We will listen to parents and involve them with their child’s schooling.
The education system as it is, is not appropriate for every child and the ‘one size fits all’ ethos isn’t working. Every child needs to be able to access an education that is beneficial to them and where they are.
