Forty years ago parents and volunteers raised money and built the Hut. We have improved and maintained the building ever since.
Since 2016 the group have been trying to negotiate a new ground lease from Colney Heath Parish Council. The new lease offered by the council was based on commercial rates, which far exceeded that which a charitable Scout group could pay. Late in 2019 we lost the battle, and the council took ownership of the building and evicted the Scout group. Since that time the building has stood empty.
This resulted in much anger and pain in the community. It was only from the kindness of the 1st London Colney Scout Group, that the group was able to continue meeting in their hut.
However now progress may be being made. A new lease may be offered, but only on the condition that the hut is refurbished. This includes fitting disabled toilets, and much work on the plumbing, heating, electrics, ceiling, roof and grounds. This will cost upwards of £30K, money the group doesn't have.
As with the time when the group went to the community and asked for help to build the hut, we are forced now to go to the community again to ask for help. We urge you to come forward if you my be able to help, and consider donating here to help the cause.
