Children’s workshop Ages 5-11 (Max 8 children in the group) Duration: 2.5 hours Give a child you know the opportunity to come and work with clay for the afternoon. Children will learn basic clay-working skills, get the chance to paint their creations and have the opportunity to try throwing on the potter’s wheel. Finished pieces be fired in the kiln and available to collect after the workshop.

Introduction to Ceramics Workshop (Max 8 people in the group) Duration: 2.5 hours Learn the basics of working with clay. You will be shown fundamental hand-building skills including pinching, slab-building and joining clay as well as an opportunity to try throwing on the potter’s wheel and decorate your pieces with coloured slips. Finished pieces be fired in the kiln and available to collect after the workshop.

Kintsugi Workshop (Max 10 people in the group) Duration: 2.5 hours Join Collective Matter in Learning about our connection with objects. Using the technique of kintsugi, explore the journey an object takes. Create new heirlooms that reflect your journey and culture.

Make your own Decal-Collage Plate and Mug (Max 8 people in the group) Duration: 2.5 hours Learn about the process of digital ceramic transfers. You will have your own ready-made bone china plate and mug to decorate with a selection of Katie Spragg’s illustrations and/or block colours that you can cut into any shape. The piece will then be fired to make the images permanent and dishwasher safe and will available to collect after the workshop.

Introduction in body casting (Max 8 people in the group) Duration: 2.5 hours In this short introductory workshop, you’ll be introduced to safe and fun processes of body casting. Using alginate and mod roc, we’ll cast any part of your body you like (within reason, there may be children present!) and you will walk away with a plaster replica of your own body parts. This is a great activity for children and families.

Surface decoration techniques workshop (Max 8 people in the group) Duration: 2.5 hours Learn a series of surface techniques for decorating clay using coloured slips, oxide and resists. You will have chance to try processes including scrafitto, stenciling, mono-printing, water-resist and inlay. At the end of the session you can choose two finished tiles to be fired in the kiln and collected after the the workshop.

Sponsor a set of accurate digital scales You could be the one responsible for using being able to weigh out accurate measurements of glaze materials and teach advanced glazing techniques. We’ll stick your name on the scales.

Sponsor a banding wheels As well as being a standard clay-studio bit of kit, these are especially useful when working with elderly people or people with disabilities where its easier to raise the work up to their eye level. We will etch your name onto the metal wheel.

Making Nature with Mary O’Malley (Max 8 people in the group) Duration: 1 day Join Mary on an exploratory workshops through the urban environment of Bermondsey and the natural beauty of Southwark Park, the Galleywall Nature Reserve, and the Stave Hill Ecological Park, before returning to the workshop to create nature-inspired sculpture.

Japanese Tea Bowl Workshop (Max 8 people in the group) Duration: 2 half days Make your own Raku clay, be introduced to the history and ceremonies surrounding this ancient technique and create your bowl using traditional techniques, before taking part in a live firing event. Watch the magic of the kiln change your piece before your eyes and create your own little bit of personalised Japanese history.

Mould Making with Eva Masterman (Max 8 people in the group) Duration: 2 days Make your own silicone rubber mould of an object of your choice. Materials supplied. This workshop will take you step by step through the process of silicone jacket mould-making, a technique used in foundries and the prop industry world-wide. We ask that you bring an object that is no bigger than 20x20x20cm (no fabric).

Couple Throwing Lessons (Max 4 people in the group) Duration: 2 half days In a two-part workshops, Learn the basics of throwing such as centring and making basic shapes on the wheel through one on one intensive instruction. The first class will be throwing and the second will be trimming.

Sponsor a work bench We have plans to make special work benches on wheels so they can moved and adjusted depending on how we are using the space. Sponsor these benches and have your name added with a custom made ceramic plaque.

Children’s Clay Party (Private: Max 8 people) Duration: 2 hours Treat yourself or someone you know to a clay workshop for their birthday party. You can invite and bring along up to 8 people to come and celebrate and make things in clay. Guests will learn basic clay-working skills and have the opportunity to try throwing on the potter’s wheel. Finished pieces will be fired in the kiln and available to collect after the workshop.

Sponsor a test kiln In addition to our huge kiln we hope to purchase a second-hand test kiln. So we can fire small quantities and lower our energy consumption. Do you want your name on this useful piece of kit?

You will all get a chance to create and decorate an object from clay, have a turn on the potters wheel and your masterpieces will be fired ready for you to collect after the workshop.

Private Making Nature with Katie Spragg (Private: Max 4 people) Duration: 1 day A special experience for you and up to 3 friends to spend the day looking at nature through the eyes of an artist and learning techniques for drawing and modelling nature. You will learn techniques for how to model nature from clay and porcelain, creating a small piece inspired by a walk, that will be fired in the kiln and available to collect after the workshop.

You will have the opportunity to meet with Katie and discuss what piece you would like, in the style of her current work.
