We will use the money to buy Colchester Foodbank charity their own warehouse a Food HQ. A place to collect food and toiletries to, so our 85 volunteers and 1 part-time staff member can sort them, store them and redistribute them to those who have a need. We have 165 partner agencies whose frontline professionals make the assessment of who to refer for an emergency food parcel, last year over 6,300 referrals were made over a third were for children. Each year demand for our service has grown and with the introduction of Universal Credit full roll out this year (July 2018) is no exception, indeed the average increase to foodbanks a year after full roll out of Universal Credit is 52% in demand.
With the fall out from Brexit and the increase from Universal Credit expected we are doing everything, we can now to prepare the foodbank to be ready to meet the need and to make sure people do not go without this Christmas or indeed next Christmas for that matter!
The biggest single cost to the Foodbank is our building.
So we are aiming to buy a £400k to £500k warehouse in Colchester.
To reduce our cost so our resources can be more focused on our clients.
As a commerical mortgage requires a 30% to 40% deposit.
We are aiming to raise a deposit for our Food HQ of between £120k and £200k for the deposit.
If food poverty is cured and there is no longer demand for our service our Trustees have decided to sell the building at this point and donate the monies to other local charities.
Since May 2018 we have had cash and pledges totalling £30,899 for the project.
Any help you can give promoting our cause, providing cash or persuading others to provide cash is greatly appreciated, thank you!
