Supporting the Club through the pandemic to provide physical fitness, nutrition and mental health benefits to the community.

New stretch target

Our stretch target will allow greater security for the club: with every cancelled meet the club loses £9,000 and therefore the stretch target allows us to cover an increased amount of this lost revenue.

The impacts of Covid-19 on individuals, families and communities across the UK has been substantial. The benefits that sport can provide, both in terms of physical fitness, nutrition and mental health has never been more appreciated than during this pandemic when most sports have had to suspend activities.

The Club has been supporting our swimmers and families through lockdown by sharing training and nutrition videos and continuing the social aspect connected by creating fun videos and organising a virtual quiz and a raffle.

The swimming community has been affected heavily at local, county and national levels by Covid-19. Covid-19 has halted the club’s revenue streams that are used to keep swimming as affordable as possible and these are unlikely to resume in the near future.

How will your money help?

Colchester Swimming Club is self-sustaining and does not receive any external support. The Club relies on open meets (competitions) to generate income to support its operation, but we have had to cancel our meets scheduled in July and December with a loss of considerable income. In order to be Covid- secure we have had to change how we operate by reducing swimmer numbers, at the same time as increasing pool time. We have been largely unable to operate The Academy section since March and this underpins the Club's operations. It is also essential to retain our coaches throughout periods of lockdown, replace equipment that has perished during the pandemic due to lack of access to maintain it e.g. waterpolo balls and purchase PPE/thermometers for The Academy section when it returns.

All monies raised will help to ensure the club remains financially stable and enable us to provide essential facilities and equipment to the Club's members. Funding will ensure the improvement plans which have been, and which will continue to be, heavily impacted by the pandemic can continue once we are able to resume normal operations.

Huge thanks to Ben Fryer @ BBC Radio Essex for helping us raise awareness of our crowdfunding campaign. If you missed it take a listen. Interview starts at 1:36.40 ➡️ https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p08zbkg9

Our ethos and who we are

Colchester Swimming Club is a volunteer run amateur club with a proud history. We have been successfully providing top quality coaching to swimmers from Colchester and the surrounding areas of north Essex from county and regional standard through to national and even International levels for a number of years.

Colchester Swimming Club is based on the foundation of offering an enjoyable, competitive learning environment for swimmers of all abilities from Colchester and the surrounding area to thrive in. We provide a wide spectrum of swimming opportunities: lessons in our Academy, Competitive swimming squads, Fitness squads, Masters swimming and Water Polo.

We are committed to helping each swimmer and water polo player reach their potential and develop their confidence, whilst learning to respect others, be ambitious and determined. We believe each swimmer should be able to enjoy the health benefits of sport in a safe and caring environment: nurturing their natural ability or keen interest to learn at all levels.
Our club is about developing health and fitness, about being part of a social network, and about teaching a generation how to aspire to achieve goals and targets whether that is in the water, coaching, teaching, officiating or volunteering.

…a challenging future

With no firm end in sight to the pandemic and the restrictions we are currently operating under, the Club will face significant financial challenges over the next year. The Club will have significantly reduced income because we cannot run open meets (competitions) that support the Club’s operation and in ensuring we meet all Covid requirements we are operating with reduced swimmer numbers whilst continuing to incur the same pool hire and coaching costs.

Supporting a solution…

You can help us to continue to provide a service to Colchester and the surrounding area. We are launching a Crowdfunding campaign to help Colchester Swimming Club bridge the financial issues now being faced, caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

...your money could go even further!

The good news is that Sport England and Crowdfunder have now launched a fund to help clubs- there is up to 50% extra funding available. We have set an initial target of raising £5,000, which Sport England could contribute up to 50% to.
